A Couple of Questions

Here are a couple of questions I have wondering about.

(1) Are the pocket clips the same size on the large and small 21's? They look like it and yet the clip insert plugs come in two sizes.
(2) Can you use a Sharpmaker on point area of the Sebenza tanto model if it should need a touch-up?
(3) Any general comments on the usefulness of the tanto model?

I use a strop on my tanto tip, as it is pretty much convex in both planes. The edge of the tip itself is curved, as is the very long bevel that forms the tip. I got a KSF strop with green and white compounds and can get the tip razor sharp without changing or damaging its appearance. I think if you took the sharp maker to it you would end up with a secondary bevel which might look goofy.

My understanding is the clips are identical, but in the past the size of the screw was different, hence the two different inset kits. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong. I also recall someone saying all the clip screws are the same now.

The pocket clips are the same, the inserts are a different size because the large has a longer cut out for the clip than the small does.

You probably can use a sharpmaker on the tanto tip but it is convex ground so it's much easier to treat it like that. Stropping or using high grit paper with a soft but firm backing will be a better way to go for actual sharpening. You can use the sharpmaker on the rest of the blade just fine.

The stronger, thicker point given you more strength where that might be needed over a standard point, but the cutting performance is largly the same as any other Sebenza.

Dunno if it means anything, but I called CRK today to order a couple new pocket clips and Angela asked for which size Sebenza. Now, if the screws are different, that may have been it. As I did ask if they come with screws. Which they do.

I wasn't aware the screw sizes are different. I've never owned the large Seb.

Joe,

I think in the past the small had a smaller size screw head, and the large a larger "button". My understanding is they are now both the same size. I believe the length and thread size of the screws has always been the same.

The info above reminds me of another question:

On both of my annuals, I am having issues with the screws and clip plugs I installed. The tolerances are so darned tight that I can't seem to get the inserts all the way towards the rear of the knife. The screw is very hard to get in without cross-threading. On the first annual I figured it was just a milling problem, but two annuals in a row leads me to believe something else is going on. Anybody else noticed this?

The length of the screws for the small and large are different. If you use a large clip screw in a small knife the screw will stick out the bottom of the scale.

To answer your annual clip filler question: I had the same issue. I tried to use a clip insert on three of my knives, (same insert, three different knives) but I always felt like I was forcing it too much to get the insert to go into place. I finally got it to stay in one, but when I changed my mind later I had a devil of a time prying it out! I just chalked it off to tight tolerances and keep the clip on my crk knives now:thumbup:
