I don't know if Opinels are a thing in the USA, but here in Europe they are respected as good cheap scary sharp everyday knives. Ding these two was just a bit of fun. They are cheap to buy and only take a couple hours to do each. Just made up as i went along :)

They are definitely a thing here and well loved. Those are some great mods, I particularly like the first one. Well done and thanks for sharing.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ruukuu, i LOVE what you did with the dark stained friction folder!!!!!

I've carried Opinel's since 1980, and I do love them and tinker with them a lot. They have their PITA flaws, but they do cut like the dickens and I love that. Theres very little our there that cuts like an Opinel for anywhere close tot he money. I've given them away as gifts to people who need a good sharp knife.

Theres a well worn number 6 in my pocket as it type.

Thx guys. I know over there you appreciate really high quality knives with super steels, titanium, etc, but it really pleases me that you also like a good sharp workaday knife like the Opinel.

Nice one :thumbsup:

You did a very nice job on those. I absolutely love the reshaping of the handles. The one in the first photo would be a real joy to use for hours in the kitchen. And you're absolutely right about Opinels being scary sharp when sharpened properly and they come back scary again with a quick touch up on a medium stone. I have a couple in my kitchen and I use them all the time. Tomatoes tremble in fear at the sight of a sharp Opinel. I really am not attracted to super steels and titanium stuff - old school carbon steel is a fantastic material for a working knife. The older I get (I'm 68) the more I like old school stuff. Thanks for posting those. Keep doing this......

D drail thank you, i'm glad you like them. And i think you are right, i am going to do a stainless one to use in the kitchen the same shape as the first one :thumbsup:

Well I certainly hope the British people appreciate a good kitchen knife that's NOT made in Asia. I am sure some do.

D drail they certainly do. Not me particularly as i'm a terrible cook. But there are a lot of British knifemakers who do kitchenware. I was actually quite surprised to find that out. Some nice stuff as well.

RoyalHolic RoyalHolic i may give that a go. But i've found you guys from the States are very good knife makers and modders, so i'm not sure i would be on the same par as them.

Very nice mods. I melted in a spoonful of Jonson's paste wax to seal the wood on my #8 to keep it from binding.

They should offer micarta opinel handles ....not just wooden ones...i carry and use at least 5 different opinel models,and they all perform well.Since I started using opinels and sak,never went back to modern tactical knives...they just dont perform as well,are harder to sharpen etc...

That last one is awesome looking. Love the color and the polish. Matching sheath. It's really pretty.

Have one plain and one modded. Just bought two more yesterday. One for the watch pocket in my jeans and one for a guy that works for me. His first.

Anyone try the synthetic handles, are they "sticky" like the wood ones I've been meaning to give one a try but the I was put off by the swelling of the wood and also not to fond of the locking mechanism although I like the slippies go figure
