On Mothers Day and again this long weekend I had a chance to escape the city and get back to where things are real.

On Mothers Day the family went to our special river valley near Fort Saskatchewan. So I had to pretend that we were actually in the woods and brought along the following

A Claude Leblanc (780-975-4506) double bit axe with purpleheart/ ?bocote?
laminated handle; Spyderco Centofante IV, and Queen Canoe with D2 and jigged bone handle. It really surprises me that I like the Spyderco with the Canoe but they compliment each other well. The Centofante is the slicer while the Canoe is reserved for more "tough" tasks. I did not get to do much with them but this is what everything looked like:

Then we took off to Slocan BC for the long wekend (getting back on Monday at 11:00pm after 16 hrs of 2 one year olds, a pregnant woman, my Girlfriend, and a buddy). Now we are talking wilderness!!

Overall a lot of fun!! As in so much that I don't want to be back at work yet (does anybody ever want to go back?). Also found out that I am definately a large knife guy- felt underknifed without a chopper. Surprisingly my friend who is not a knifer LOVED the Outcast- but he has good taste in user knives- he got my Mora after a weekend camping when he chose it as his favourite.

Sorry for the long post- I just had to brag about my fun!!

Great pics! Looks like you and your family had fun and some great scenery.

The axe is made here in Edmonton and yes- the nessmuck shape was one of the main reasons I picked it up. I have top thin out the edges a bit (at least one of them) but so far it holds up and works well. I just love the laminated wooden handle.
