Just wanted to say hello and make my first post. I registered nearly a month ago but was having computer computer problems, so I couldn't get on till now. . . .
First of all, I wanted to share a great experience I had with columbia river:
I have owned a Side HAWG 1 for about a year, but never carried it much due to the crappy steel and potentially dangerous sheath plate design (the knife unclips edge down). I just thought it was a cool little knife, albeit not a very practical one for numerous reasons.
When I saw that CRKT had changed the sheath plate design to include a safety ridge for the edge and a clip on the sharp side of the blade, I Emailed CRKT to ask how I could get ahold of a new sheath.
THE VERY NEXT DAY, I recieved an email from Lindsey, telling me that they would ship me a new sheath for free as soon as possible!! I recieved it in about a week.
I was very impressed with such a friendly, prompt, and high level of customer service, especially for something so mundane as my situation.
Kudos to CRKT!
Incidentally, does anyone here own or carry a side HAWG, particularly the model 1? I would really like to hear any thoughts or experiences.
I would also like to whine:
I just started a new job as a tree trimmer and lost my trusty spyderco native on the 3rd day. OUCH . . . bad omen?!
I do not think there is a better knife for the money (40 bucks at walmart), what with s30v, made in america and all, but I still didn't want to lose it!!!
And. . . .
I want to replace it with another beater knife with real good carbon steel. I was a Huge fan of the Cold Steel Trail Guide for that reason; it was nearly indestructible, I love carbon v or whatever other alias it is given, and they're cheap! So, I was gonna go with a Camillus Sierra, but the ad says, "high carbon stainless", which probably means 420j2, and I don't like the fact that they are saber ground.
Anyone know exactly what steel those Sierras are made of?
So here is my long winded thread, and thanx for reading.
Good to finally be here!
