Hey guys, couple questions related to old collins axes
1. did collins axes ever come with white painted handles? maybe with some blue at the bottom? I found a couple of axes with the most beautiful handles - I didn't have a tape with me but were probably 30-32" with traces of old white paint on them - very very slim, beautiful fawns foot. I don't remember the head on one of them but the other was a nice shaped michigan pattern with a high centerline, but no stamp that I could see anywhere - but it was old enough that there were several square head cut nails in and around the wedge. I'm considering picking them up for the handles
2. does anyone know when Collins started selling axes with the HOMESTEAD stamp? I know that the later homestead axes were made by Mann - they had a collins stamp in the metal and a paper sticker that said homestead. I found a DB axe that has a nice high centerline, appears to be fairly old, no paint at all on the head, and is just stamped HOMESTEAD near the poll. And again the handle looks to have been painted white.
