A cowboy bowie, 1065 and stag.

I don't make a lot of bowies, although I do enjoy the form. I also don't use much stag, although this piece was sure a treat to work with.
This will be for a local cowboy, one who makes a living riding horses and mending fence. He'll be building the sheath, as that's his specialty.

The blade is 1065 carbon steel, the fittings are ladder damascus, and of course that's a sambar taper. Blade length is about 10".

This is really nice Salem. I really like how you did the guard and that piece of stag is just magnificent. I'm glad you left it practically untouched.

Maybe you should make bowies more often as that is one nice piece, I like it all esp. the guard and the butt cap and I am not usually a fan of Damascus.

Beautifully executed like all the knives, that Ive seen from your hand so far. Big fan.

How ever I dont quite get along with the way the guard meets the edge. Maybe there is too small a space where the end of the edge meets the guard. Maybe its just the photos. I (literally) cant put my finger on it.

Thanks for the comments folks! Bladescout, probably what is bending your eye has to do with the rather short ricasso- that's sort of a personal style with me, over the years I've held less and less affection for a lengthy ricasso. Hell, I've done away with them completely on my new series of line chefs. Some amazing makers are the opposite, for instance JD Smith and Kevin Klein seem to really like to stretch them! Everyone's Iron Mistress looks a little different, I suppose...
