Last night I was modifying my SAR5's handle and thinking about how comfy the res-c handles are and it occurred to me, why not put a res-c grip onto the sar 5!? The way the blade curves into the handle is already pretty similar to the tang profile of res-c handled knives

The only problem would be having to sacrifice my yard keeper, though I'm sure a new handle could be fabricated.

Do you suppose the busse factory would sell an empty res-c grip?

Aren't they injection molded around the handle though? I don't see how they could sell an empty one.

Damned if I know, but either way I'd still ahve to pull one off my Yard Keeper so I can trace the profile of the tang. Getting another one to jam back on would be nice though.

+1 It would be a pretty rad blade.

I've seen res-c handles off before, but I don't think I've ever seen one peeled off in one piece. That, in and of itself, would be an amazing feat. :D

True. If they are injection molded then it's probably clinging pretty tightly to all those tiny pores left by the bead blast... damn.

I too have seen them sliced off, but never slid off nicely. Maybe someone will chime in with some good news though *crosses fingers*

Seems like it would be worth asking the shop if this can be done as a custom mod, assuming they still have the set-up from the Basics.

Unless "Uncle Gerry" has a new process up his sleeve (likely right next to the folder), the Res-C handles are molded directly onto the handle. That's why they don't get loose when you use 'em.

Of course, that doesn't mean your idea isn't a good one!

The res-c handles are actually premoulded and then pressed onto the tang. Don't ask how I know, other than it has come up before! :p

AH HA! I knew someone would bring me some good news.

Now in your considerable experience with ScrapYard, do you suppose they'd sell an empty grip? I know busse wont sell handle slabs for self installation (pssssssssssss) but then again, they very clearly state "They are not us and we are not them."

Truthfully I doubt they will sell you one, however no harm in asking right? Worst case scenario is that you get a no.

(Well, worst case would involve a savage beating, however Patti doesn't seem like that type! :p )
(On the other hand, she must do something to keep Dan in line!)

I don't think you could put one on at home. I think I remember reading that those type grips have to be pressed on with special equipment. I may be wrong....

Stay sharp,

or just get you a dumpster mutt..........wait, am I allowed to say that here?

honestly I like micarta on the smaller blades, but if you get answers from the shop let me know, I'm wantin' a foreward lanyard hole on my SBR

Somebody recently did a cord wrap, then dipped it in that rubbery handle stuff from Home Depot, it turned out pretty good but don't remember where the thread is???
