A Custom Straight Razor (what I make)

So I realize I haven't posted too many pics of stuff I've done here. So now is the time right? I make mainly straight razors. It's a passion of mine. Here is my most recent. Made of O1. The scales are canvas micarta with .45 shells on both sides. The shells were tough to do because of the non-exact fitting hole which they needed to sit in and I realize the fit isn't perfect. I need to find a better solution for next time- I already have some ideas. I still need to hone it, but it should be just like all the others I've made so far- i.e. a great shaver. I do need to say that I hate these photos. They really don't make it look as good as it does in person. The harsh light makes it look scratched and less than shiny. I need a professional photographer from now on- really! lol Anyway- hope you all enjoy!

Nice work Alex!! That looks awesome, and ditto on the makers mark. My mark has received nothing but ridicule so I think I need to make a new one.

I did some pistol grips a while back with .45 long colt heads. I wanted them to look live, so i tried to find some way to make the priming mixture inert so there wouldn't be any accidents, but everything I read said it was pretty tuff stuff. Water supposedly wouldn't do it, I think the most promising way was soaking in wd40. I think I just ended up soaking it and picking out as much of the mixture as I could.

Hope all is well, talk to you later,
Nathan

Wow!!!! Extraordinary I love everything about it. Please do not change your mark it is very cool I really like it!!

Great looking meat cleaver! The shape of the scales really works in conjunction with the flow and style of the razor. Great work!
...makes me wonder if I'll ever get around to tackling the batch I started...

I've never shaved with a wedge - might have to get around to trying one!

Good work. The pins look great.

Have you ever used faux tortoise shell or another acrylic for scale material? I'm looking for a source.

That's a really beautiful straight razor Philadelph. I like the inclusion of the .45 cal casing.......great touch! You also did a wonderful job doming and polishing those pins...not such an easy feat.

Love it,

Thanks everyone- it means a lot to me to hear that you like it. I also love my maker's mark! I designed that logo myself and actually have a tattoo of it!

As for price- I haven't decided yet. It might be sent out to a couple reputable straight razor users for some testing, etc. When I do price it, it will be on my website ( www.customrazors.com ). I also have an email list that I send out. Contact me through my site.

Wulf- I've used some of that stuff for scales. I just don't really like acrylic scales all that much. Try Masecraft Supply if you want to try some- they have a lot of options.

Meanwhile... I need to get around to getting a knifemaker membership finally! lol

A very pretty piece of artwork dude!

I am a professional photographer, (ok yes, a lot of folks say that, but I really am). I will be glad to photograph your work for you in trade for a nice piece every now and then.

5 year old thread, does the OP still make razors? Did he ever point up for a knifemaker membership? BTW aren't you just another registered user, not even a supporting member asking for freebies?

What's wrong here?
