recently i purchased a spyderco cat. really enjoying it but the clip was kinda sucking, (are all spyderco clips this bad *i was thinking*) it was loose. and especially slippery with the slick CF scales. kept falling out of my pocket. ( I did try bending it as i do with all my clips but this wire clip seemed to fight me pretty good. not being even etc.). so i called up spyderco and explained. the girl i was talking to told me i had to send the knife in, add $5 and wait for the return.. it would have to be repaired. the liner does lock up towards the center more than i like.. but not enough to send it off, i just asked for a replacement clip and would be on my way. she insisted it would have to be sent in for the clip to be fixed. frustrated, i politely hang up the phone and decided to pursue another avenue. i emailed spyderco.. i got the same answer. at this point i was getting a sour taste in my mouth about this and thought. just for a clip? send it in. are they mad? then i called spyderco tech support and got a guy name mike. great guy. in fact the only reason i'm about to buy another spyderco is because of this gentleman. ( and i really like the sage).
so mike asks me if i'd like a gold wire clip off another knife.. he had a cat in his pocket at the moment and as he was comparing them told me he thought it would look really good. i got excited and accepted.
he sends me the clip free. doesnt ask for payment once. dont get me wrong, i would have gladly paid for another clip but it was no big deal. clip is on its way. and so is the sage!
later the next day i got a call from a fellow at spyderco asking about my recent inquiry and how my situation was handled. i thought it was nice they called to make sure all was well. now i've added spyderco's to my edc.
nice work mike AND spyderco!
