A.D.D. + knife projects (started working on a 16)

I don't know about anybody else; but I get distracted pretty easily. I can focus on projects...but, when I'm forced to stop, I'm as likely to pick up something else as I am to go back and finish the first. Apparently, knife projects are no different.
I was making new handles for my BK12 - it was going pretty well until I realized that the fasteners I'd purchased weren't going to work. New wood handles made, but no way to secure them to the blade until I find new stuff. Hmmmmm - I've got that BK16 that I was going to mess with...you get the idea.

This is where I stopped - for now, at least. (Sorry, it wasn't anything more original...I'm just happy I didn't screw it up, lol)

Just looking at it, it was hard to tell if I had changed it much; so I put it alongside the other 16

Okay, so it's a little different; but I'm tired, and I thought it should be MORE different. I was going to take the handles off, and lay the revised one atop the original; but the allen wrench wasn't on my workbench & I didn't feel like looking for it. Instead, I just put a piece of paper at the edge of the counter, butt the original blade up against it, and traced the outline. I repeated the process with the one I'd been working on, and, well, see for yourselves

I really don't have anything set in mind for this one - I'm just going to tweak things until I decide it's done; then make a set of handles for it

I believe the word we're looking for is "Stabnificent!"

Really nice looking mod. I didn't think the 16 could get any better. I might have been wrong.

Thanks for posting!!!

Looks good! I'm wondering though, does it change the balance a lot? I'm asking this because I find the 16 to be an extremely well balanced knife, for me at least.

Sometimes all it takes is a slight change in the blade spine or a curve to give your knife a sleeker look. Forum member Dexwithers has done some amazing BK16 customs and so have other members. The 16 is a good starting point for a project.

I think it looks great! Subtle, but I could tell even before I looked at the side by side. Sometime all it takes is a little different radius and it's a completely different knife. Looks sweet.

Yes, he has. The discussion and mock ups in the Lemons thread are what convinced me to do this. I'm sure my work will be sporadic, due to time constraints; but I'm okay with that as long as I don't create a pile of knives that get stuck in unusable stages.

There is a slight rearward shift in POB. The reshaping resulted in a loss of 0.25 oz.

I must say that I admire people like yourself and Dexwithers (and the others whose posts I have seen) that painstakingly draw out their desired results, modify them until you find the look you want...then make them happen. I'm much more a fly by the seat of my pants kind of guy.

I don't have a FFG 16 - just a sabre-ground FPR.
When I first saw your pic, I thought it was stock - but wondered why it was so much prettier and more balanced looking than mine.
Great mod! Nice and bushcrafty.

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't show the top earlier...it kind of hints that somebody was messing with it.

As you can see, I haven't bothered cleaning off the burr, yet. I can feel it on both sides....but looking at these pics was the first I really saw it.

It is a subtle change, but I really like the overall look it gives the blade. Pretty awesome.
