A damascus utility folder project. Pic heavy...

Hello. A while back I had this plan to make a wedding ring for myself and sourced some damascus for the project. The ring turned out great and I had a little piece leftover and I wanted to do something with it. Here is my humble and scattered work in progress. I hope you enjoy and comments are welcome. This knife is not for sale. Neither is the ring, unless something goes wrong…

This is based off a broken Boker stockman that I purchased for a pattern. The blade steel is Zoe Crist carbon damascus (very friendly folks) and the backspring is etched 1075 or 1080. The pivot bushing is 630 Al/Bronze and the shadow bushings are 840 oiled bronze. I don’t recommend using 840 as it is too porous. Live and learn. Nickel silver pins and natural g10 finished to 3000 grit.

Here goes

I heard warnings of possible rusting but I had to try it out anyway...

Hello Kris. I purchased his steel a while ago so I am not sure if he is up and running again.
Thank you for the kind words.

holy crap you're not messing around, i am absolutely enthralled by your work! i like to tinker around in my shed too and that knife if simply amazing.

Sorry if it seems like im gushing but you just pressed all my buttons. I absolutely love damascus, i love whittling, and i love a knife with a small blade and bigger handle. The sheepsfoot is the perfect shape, and man did you do a good job on the milled liners.

The birds eye rivet is beautiful, and i love the contrast of the dark backspring to the vibrant color of the scales.

Gorgeous work my friend, keep up the good work :thumbup:

Great job, you do really nice work, the ring & knife ( blade & scales ) are fantastic.

That is amazing work! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Very nice! And thanks for showing us your detailed photos. I aspire to one day come close to your level of skill. :)

That's what I'm talking about. "Awful" blade to handle ratio, and I love it. Dare I say it, but the shot of the backside of that knife is just darn sexy.

BTW, I don't really mean the blade to handle ratio is awful. I've just seen some folks complain about handles being too big, and it's always puzzled me. I like having a lot to hold on to myself.

Very cool design! I love it! That knife has "Functional" written all over it! Cool ring too! I always wanted one made out of Shakudo....but alas, not married anymore and Ill be darned if a woman makes that mistake again!!!!:D

Thank you very much for the nice comments. What sort of inspired this project was a Victorinox electrician solo. I had one of those little knives and it made for a great bench knife. It would not peel an apple or skin a deer but I found myself using it more than any other knife. I just wanted to make a utility knife with a custom feel and better features. It was also practice for the next knife....like every knife before it. Thank you.
