A darn fine survival knife...

As anybody who has ever read Nessmuk knows, his idea of "camping" is a lot closer to what we today would call a survival outing. As such, he had a pretty darn nice trio of cutting tools to get the job done, whether processing game or making camp utensils or just whittling for the pleasure of it.

I came across this really great write-up of a modern maker putting out his rendition of Nessmuk's fixed blade hunting knife. Thought you all might enjoy it.

Add in a GB Mini or perhaps a Reeves mini double bit hatchet, and a nice 2 bladed slipjoint pocketknife, and you, too, can have this timeless trio. :)

Wow, nice knives. If I remember correctly, Dave Beck made a Nessmuk knife also, perhaps he'll bring it back. :).

Dave's Nessmuk is what inspired me to make mine. I love the design but wanted something really tough. I ended up with what you see on my sight, 1/4" thick O-1 with a fully tapered tang. It was actually heat treated by Dave Beck. It's my favorite knife that I've made so far. Looking forward to making more. My next one might be a "Tactical Nessmuk" out of stainless and Micarta, who knows.

Has anyone else gotten the impression that the Grohman Survival Knife is really jsut a modern Nessmuk copy?
