went to a local show today, a short ride... brought my dan koster WSK with me, for show and tell - there's a couple guys that always have a kukri or something there, so yar
very quickly ran into a forumite "Jay Mulcahy" who makes some very nice things out of files, and leaf springs, and things. indian style hawks, and small blades, and big blades, and fire strikers, and ... i told him about the cantina, and hope he's lured here. you'll like his stuff
Sylvrfalcn should definitely be intrigued, and vice-versa, i think.
as far as the show... a lot of stuff i wanted to see... wan't there. wanted to fondle er examine bark rivers... but no... and see more helles, and mora types, and leukos and things ragnar might carry... alas.
there was a lot of very nice samples of folded steel, and wood (some kind of 50,000 yo bog wood), WHOLE mammoth tusks, much in the way of cool parts.
showed off dan's WSK, a few people ooo'ed and aww'ed, one person actually saw the mark and said "oh, dan, i saw this at the show"
someone else recognized it vaguely (davenh ?) and one person gave it a long look and asked if i was selling it "no way dude, mine mine mine, but i'm sure dan will make you one if you ask" ;P
a nice young man, got his first kukri - a tourist model i saw last time at $15-20 and i didn't want to buy for various reasons, i guess the price went down to $10 and it's his. told HIM about HI/cantina as well, maybe he'll stop in for his second khukri
of course, i couldn't quite resist buying something... not quite what i thought i might - a kershaw external toggle ; what a wacky and weird little thing. i like. lots of ways to open and close it that seems magical and improbable and legal
and well. mmm. there was a lot of junk, and many tempting things, and some VERY expensive things, and $2000-6000 netsukes and my. some fine things.
