A Day in the Life of my Izula

Hey guys. Just wanted to post a pictorial of my daily Izula use. I've posted some of these pics before, but it was buried in another thread and some may have missed it. I know I enjoy seeing other people's use of knives, and thought you guys might too.

I'm an electrical contractor and use my knives daily. I started with cheap folders, moved up to quality folders when my cheapies kept breaking, and now moved to fixed blades for the confidence in use.

The Izula fit's my needs perfectly. Small enough to easily pocket, which is a great plus for me, since my tool belt and tape measure and hammer take up a lot of belt space. I keep my Izula in a kniveshipfree pocket sheath, along with a 4sevens flashlight, stuck in my back pocket.

So, one day I decided to bring my camera along to document some of the jobs I use my Izula for.

This day, I need to install a new 200 amp service for a drying grain bin. I used the Izula for stripping the 250-4/0-250 wire to feed the panel.

The Izula works great for this application. With the cord wrap, it feels secure in the hand. And unlike a few cheapie folders that have broke on me while doing this, I know the fixed blade Izula is not going to fold.:D

Later that day, I had to wire up a septic system at a cabin and used the Izula for reaming out some conduit for the underground conductors.

At the same cabin, I had to install a receptacle in the mantle of a fireplace. I used the Izula to make some final adjustments on the hole so the device box could fit.

So, that's a typical day for me. I love using the Izula. Jeff, Mike and Shon have made me a happy guy!

Thanks for letting me share.

Great post. Knives will always be utility tools for me. I spend more time cutting open boxes or cutting a tough steak than I ever do using them as a wilderness tool or "tactical" tool.

I know Aluminum wiring is Illegal right ? wire looks aluminum ?

Cool post ,Surprised you have not got some kind of Klien tool handle on that Izula.

Very cool. I work in retail sales so boxes and misc stuff gets the most attention from my izula. I never am without it. A trusty daily companion.

TTD, aluminum wiring is only illegal for the smaller sizes. In the feeder sizes and service cable, it is used extensively. The only restrictions are on the way it is terminated and the terminations need to be rated for aluminum conductors.

I love your pics! Very used look to them! I need to start taking pics of when I use mine :( I've been a lazy boy!

Great post of your day to day use of your Izula. I work in flooring and homebuilding and my Izula gets used just the same way your does day to day. Great post.

Cool post! I have been letting the Izula get some more "play time" and it is definetly one handy tool!

Jeff is right. I use my Izula way more in day to day task than in a wilderness setting.

I probably only get in the woods about 20 times a year but I work 5-6 days a week, the difference is considerable.

Thanks again for the comments. :) The Izula is my favorite knife from ESEE and definitely my most used.

Nice photo show. Great to see the izula at work. I've been edc mine in my pocket. I need a belt sheath or something to make it more comfortable. Any suggestions?

I like to carry mine in a knife pocket sheath, from kniveshipfree, like the one here:

I stick it in my back pocket, and I don't even feel it's there. Even when sitting down or driving.

I also like the kydex sheath it came with. Sometimes I'll stick it on my belt. I've also tried it horizontal, at the 2:00 o'clock position on my waist. Sticks out a little bit, but not too bad.

I am a low voltage AV guy and a day in the life of my Izula looks a lot like this. This is a great post. I think if I have time I will try and capture a day in the life of my Izula. It's just so hard to stop and take pictures when we're always pressed for time.

Would love to see some of your pics.

I know what you mean about pressed for time. Especially when you are working for a customer, and you are on his time and dime, it's hard to justify taking pics.

But, it really didn't take long, and the customer wasn't around.:D

Just wanted to post an update.

I've upgraded to a Izula II!:D Nothing wrong with my old Izula, but I wanted to try the new Izula II. After a month or so of field use, my old Izula is now in my truck bag as a back-up.

I find the longer handle to be more comfortable for long term use. I had an opportunity to take some pics a few days ago, and thought I would share them.

The temp was around 5 degree F and I was wiring a Greenhouse that was going to house 6,000 heads of lettuce. It was actually pretty comfortable in the greenhouse, even without supplemental heat. But I had to make the hookup's to the meter loop out in the snow, so these were the pics I took.

You can see the meter loop in the right side corner.

The Izula II has found a permanent spot in my pocket for day to day use for electrical work.

I've even convinced my co-workers to get one. They are now looking on-line as we speak.:D

Thanks for sharing the pictures. The Izula is definitely a tool that won't let you down. It's the one knife I won't leave the house without.
