Please forgive that I just didn’t place this in the “newest addition” thread, but I’m just excited that all these have made it home. For the most part I have only bought GEC. I have never owned any of these knives or makers before (except for an older Schrade, and yes Northwoods is made by GEC), and two are my grandfather in law’s pocket knives who passed recently.

I have never been handed down a knife before. So, when my wife’s mom handed me the Frost Cutlery Mason Commemorative Trapper and the Schrade Uncle Henry 897, I didn’t even care what brand they were, or what condition they were in, they were used and carried by a good man in my life. These two were my wife’s grandfather’s knives, and while he had a couple others that went to my brother in law, I am honored to have them.

I have already covered in another thread the Lon Humphrey Whitetail but another pic won’t hurt.

Next up are two knives that I have had my eye on for a while. I haven’t had a leather handle knife, or even a Hess knife, before. Both knives came screaming sharp out of the box and just feel as though they were made for my hand. I am really impressed with these and they are a steal for the price! The Muley is already being hunted down.

Tiburon in Amboyna and Hunter in Leather.

Last, but not least, I have never owned a Northwoods and thought it was about time I tried it out. I must say this little 15 is a looker and a great little knife. Fit, Finish, and pull are close enough to perfect for me. Sorry for the blurred pic. It did go on an adventure getting home but Derrick and Tyler of KSF were great and had my back in the case it was lost. Thank you for that KSF.

To get these I sold off a handful. I wanted to try something different. I am glad I did. Who knows what is next... as long as it is a traditional.

Thanks for letting me share and dropping in.

Nice addition's KBA . I am really loving the 2 HESS fixed blades

Great choices and as for the ones handed down;priceless!! I am really impressed with the Hess knives. I can see why you got them both, as I cannot pick a favorite;)

Nice collection - those Hess knives are sweet, but each one is very appealing. Whitetails are nice too.

Brett - It is great to have you back and active my friend :) Those are some great knives you have added to your revamped collection:cool: As you stated they are all very traditional

Don't know what you sold but you sure did good replacing them! All beautiful knives KBA!:thumbup: Enjoy the diversity.:)
BTW, excellent series of photos but if I start picking up Humphrey or Hess knives I'm gonna blame you.:D

Hess Knife Works makes incredible knives at awesome prices. The Tiburon is such a great size and style of knife.
You may have already known this, but GEC makes the blades for Hess. It's their standard 1095 ground and heat treated at GEC then sent to Hess for assembly and finishing. This was really cool to me because I could get a handmade knife with a steel/heat treat that I am very familiar with.
Great pictures and knives!

Nice convex edges on those two Hess knives. Knives passed down are definitely priceless and I go through the same thing, sell some to try the new. Great looking 5 Brett.

I enjoyed reading this informative thread. Great knives and excellent pics. Ill take a closer look at Hess knives.Glad to see you back.

Thanks for sharing...I especially like the look of the Tiburon. almost Kephart-ish....but a lot better looking. Looks like it was worth the sell off

Brett, What a great day for knives! You have some nice stuff there - savor the day, one like that doesn't happen often. That Schrade 897 will slip up on you as a favorite - I can barely keep mine out of my pocket. OH

Really nice knives KBA. Because of you I have a Humphrey's on the way. I have the Hess Muley you seek. Looks like the Tiburon in the size of the Hunter. Great knives those Hess'. I used mine the gut my deer last fall. I also have the Outdoorsman. I guess you have to by two Hess knives if you are buying one. I am afraid the Humphrey's will be the same.
Nice Hand me downs. You will cherish those, I am sure. The Northwoods knife will multiply on you. I bought one and now have five.

My two Hess knives along with a Battle Horse Knife.

Those Hess knives are gorgeous!!! They remind me of my old Stewart-era Marbles and Blackjacks.

Great spread, Brett, I especially favor the Hess woodcraft style with the leather handle.
And the Northwoods camel bone is GORGEOUS!

Great pile O knives, there. Really liking the 897 and the Northwoods!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I appreciate it.

Lol, blame SmithHammer on the Humphreys. Ever since he bought his Muley I have been eyeing them.

OH - I think you're right my friend. :)

Bozack - You'll thank me once it arrives! :D Which one did you go with to add to that awesome collection you have? I think I am going to grab a black leather Muley when the piggy bank is full again.

Macchina - Thank you for the info. I had read that and honestly that is what sold me on them. I also read they come sharp but just thought it was an exaggeration, but it's true.

Thanks again guys.

Ah! I just noticed that you can see pink in the Hess knives. I wondering what that was but then realized it is my daughters car in the back yard that I was using to prop the camera. Just thought you may want to know...:D

Brett,

Great looking additions. I really like the direction you're going in. I recently started getting into fixed blades myself, and really appreciate your write-ups on your new knives.
