Deadbox Hero had a great idea (in another thread). I’m sure someone would pay a handsome fee to spend a day with Sal at the Golden plant. Throw in a signed #1 of **** first release and now we’re talking a fantastic experience. Maybe make your own special?

Auction? Raffle?

What would you pay?

I did not. But I’m not talking about a “visit” but that would still be very nice.

You mean like a date? Nevermind, in that context, your original post sounds almost obscene.

I’m not sure I can relate to where you’re coming from.
I was thinking he could really build some good suspense if he had this kind of promotion. Like getting to watch the #1 Respect fixed blade being made in your favorite steel and walking out with it at the end of the day.
He’s already dropped a BIG but vague hint about this new blade.

I get where you are coming from and some people might go for it. Still, that is not my cup of tea. I have known a lot of famous people over my life time and they all put their pants on the same way I do.

(of course that is not to imply meeting Sal would not be a thrill, as it certainly would)

I think the best way to spend a day with Sal is probably to contact him, and then find out what event he will be at. I doubt he is going to start giving private pay for the day chill sessions even if he thought he could make some loot doing it.

I can't speak for him obviously. Maybe I can get him to do my nephew's Bar Mitzvah.

Folks, I really think you’re missing the KNIFE part of the deal. Maybe I should have titled this thread - Help make your own #1 collectible Spydie. I’m no real collector but I thought going to the factory to help build your #1 of 500, or even one-off collectible would be a desirable experience for someone, especially the way some collectors carry on around here. Someone might want a PM2 (or whatever your favorite knife is) in their favorite unobtainium steel. I’ve read that a lot of folks wish they could have their favorite knife with the steel of their choice, or the newest exclusive design and watching it being made would be interesting.

Sal really doesn’t need to be there, but the provonince of the knife might be enhanced if the collector had a picture of Sal handing him/her the new knife.

All that being said, I guess I misread the level of fan-boy enthusiasm expressed by some. And, I’m sorry if I offended anyone’s dignity. Have a nice day.

I would like to be at the factory outlet for the "seconds" sale. That would be enuf.
Sal gets on this forum occasionally and it's fun to hear what he says...gives some good info from time to time.

How do you think spydercos are made? By hand one at a time? They're made in huge batches, blades are cut/blanked (whichever process they use, probably water jetted) hundreds at a time. Parts are pulled from bins and bolted together later (not taken off the machine one at a timr and assembled right then).

Making the first of a run in some other special steel (choose based off the one customer's preference) is impossible, that's midtech level at minimum, and to do it on demand is full on custom level manufacturing.

Maybe, and that's a big if, this idea might work somewhere like what CRK use to be (before Chris left / Ann took over) but not at any production knife making facility.

It could work as part of a coordinated promotion. Win the trip, do a tour, chat with Sal for a bit and then do final assembly on the first knife of a sprint run.

I wouldn't hold my breath though. Lot of effort for very little payoff. My guess is it would have to be for a charity raffle of some sort.

Why does there always have to be a jack*** ruining a good thread. I'm not sure if it is mandatory or not but it sure seems that way. Same crap on YouTube, someone making fun of somebody with a speech impediment or a funny accent. Some people grow up but never mature.

Alright. Maybe I deserved that. But you should probably lighten up. Maybe try to set the example the rest of us are failing to set or maybe you could continue to show us what a hypocrite you are.

Edit: and for the record...Nick Shabazz does not have a speech impediment. It's just his accent.
