Anyone know of a decent pair or cargos? Rugged, preferably inexpensive. I am quite fond of the material carhartt pants are made of, but I feel like carpenter pants are inefficient. Cargo pocket = good.

Another idea I was thinking were standard issue BDUs. Anyone know where I can get BDU's (same style, same material) minus the camo?

Thanks.

Check Brigade Quartermaster's website or the Sportsman's Guide website. Both carry some form of the BDU's, in the regular camo pattern, and in solid colors.

Carhartt also makes a proper cargo pant, but they are NOT made in the USA. They seem to last about half as long as a US made pair. Too bad, I really like them otherwise.

carhartt makes a cargo? anyone know of an online retailer?

thanks for the other leads, ill look at brigade quartermasters.

thanks.

These guys rock:

They have Propper brand BDUs for $21.95, in many colors besides the various camos. I get the 60/40 blend and wear 'em daily in an urban office environment. I love 'em, they last way longer than a pair of Levis for half the price, with double the pockets.

I wear 'Propper' black BDU's everyday for messengering, and a lot of my 'colleagues' do too- mostly in camo I noticed... The ripstop ones dry quickly and are like pajamas in terms of comfort, while the poly blend ones are more water resistant (and spray can water reppelant takes nicely to them) and keep the wind chill down. Price to performance is unmatched IMO:)

I'll vouch for Royal Robbins.
Slightly more expensive, but well worth it.
They wear like iron, are cut very comfy, have many large pockets, and look cool.

I'm a Royal Robbins 5.11 convert. I just wish they'd get their UK/European distribution sorted out.

One thing though - belts - what do you wear with your 5.11's?

Having said that, I'm happy to give other brands a go if you guys say they're good.

Thanks for the links and ideas already posted!

Royal Robbins 5.11 are the choice here. Seems like if the guys are not in uniform, they wear RR 5.11 to the range. Almost all wear the Wilderness belt.

I broke down & bought a pair of Royal Robbins. Very comfortable. I'll pick up some more as soon as I find them at a good price. Wear very well & have pockets for cell phone, smokes, notebooks, etc. I'm not a LEO or a "tactical" type guy, but I have thick thighs & many khakis (what I wear to work) don't fit me well. Even the last pair of BDU pants I bought were too tight in the legs. I also found a Desantis instructor's belt that I wear w/ them & jeans, etc. I recently lost a bunch of weight & I like the fact that I can cinch my pants w/ the velcro belt.
