A Design Idea of Mine

Well, here's my (current) idea of the perfect chopper (sorry for the poor pic quality, it's just a pic of the sketch):

The large pic is about actual size. It's about 18.5" long overall, with about a 12.35" blade. It would have a distal taper, starting out at around 1/4" or 5/16" thick and tapering to about 3/16" or so near the tip. I spent quite a while on the handle ergonomics, and while I can't be sure it would fit my hand unless I actally had one made, I feel it is pretty optimal for chopping, for me. The handle texture would be quite aggresive; I would probably use the Busse diamond quilting. BTW, the object below the bolo is a spine view of the handle. You may notice the handle material continues around the (rear) lanyard hole (on the rear guard) so the rear guard would not rub too much when chopping(this is purely theory of course). You may also notice I included a bird beak pommel. Also, the primary grind starts a little more forward than on most Busses so that the edge doesn't start right at the end of the finger cutout.

BTW, if you print it out actual size, you can get a more realistic impression of it, IMHO.

Just one of my dreams of a Busse custom. We can all dream, can't
we :D ?

What do you guys think?

Andrew, very nice design, I like it too :)

Yes we can dream, but with the help of Contender, those dreams can now come true!!! :D

Andrew - i LIKE it.
Well thought-out design; puts many aspects together that haven't been before.
Better tell Marc to whip up FOUR of'em, huh? Hee, Hee.
i appreciate that choil idea behind the grinding plunge-lines; keeps that first finger from its "common pains."
Is that Double-Thick Micarta? I've suggested that to Jerry B4, but he just ignores me. ;)
Good useful=looking belly on that "Busse Bolo-Beast:" Hey... Need a Name? There ya go...
Any D-Guard attached would be independent of the lanyard at the bird's-beak, which is a good thing, IMHO.
Thanks, Andrew, for sharing that with us.
If you have one made, feel free to pass it around, we'll enjoy sharing that, too...! :p
But are ya sure you want the straight, rather than the "chopping-correct" E handle, Hmmm? Perhaps a variant on that variant could be a standard model, too?!?! :o Okay, so that's silly...
i'll go away now...
But, truly, thanks for sharing that with us: it is Cool.

Someone else is wanting one too!! I was just thinking on this yesterday. Another maker has one that is very similar to this design, but it's just not INFI!

Great Design! I'm drooling just thinking about a chopper like this.

What do you think Jerry? Can you make five of these?

Andrew,

Whoa!!!!!! Very nice design. . . . . Kentucky isn't really that far from Ohio. . . . . a mere 8 hour commute. . . . . need a job?

Looks like you drank out of One Who Buys' coffee mug and caught "Monsto Bolo Fever". ;)

WAIT A MINUTE! THIS JUST IN!!!!!!

(To be read in the anecdotal style of Dan Rather, CBS news anchor), "Stand by and park the dog. Get Aunt Sally out of the hen house. Shoot the cat and put the phone back on the hook. Put your car in the garage and tighten your beer cap. Grab the pretzel bag, skip the chips and use hot mustard like cheese dip! There’s a Nuclear sized conspiracy a brewin’ and it ain’t looking good for those involved.. . . here are the facts, the numbers, the dirty lint from the dryer vent, . . . . Darkjedi2 breaks a code that points to a 13" After Shock Bolo. . . .. . .One Who Buys orders a 19-20" two-handed Bolo Machete/Sword. . . . . . Andrew Lynch designs an 18" one-handed bolo. . . . . . hmmmmmmmmm. . . . . anyone see a conspiracy here? . . . We are now predicting that Marc Fratello will take the state of Florida with a large bolo in hand.. . . . Whoa, stand by. . . it looks as though we might have an upset, a capsize, an unexpected turn of events. . . . One Who Buys is on a Bush plane headed for the Sunshine State. . . he’s sportin’ a boat load of INFI.. a veritable cornucopia of Nuclear Tough Bladeware. . .. Andrew Lynch has now been named as Fratello’s . . . “

. . . . . . . . hmmm. . . . . . errrrrrr. . . . sorry. . . got a little carried away there.

It has now been verified. . . . I’m losing it. . . . . chalk this up as yet another mysterious and hallucinogenic effect of INFI dust. . . . . . just put a pinch between your cheek and gum. . .

Sleep. . . .must sleep. . . .,

Jerry

Marc -- Could it be that the Bolo could be had as a Limited Edition for the 20" uh, i mean 20 year design? is THAT how? Huh? is it? Huh?
"Busse Bad-Ass Bolo-Beast" gets my vote for a Name, Strabs ! ;)
Here's lookin' at YOU, Jerry...
Hope you're feeling pretty stared-at by now with all this hub-bub...!

Andrew -- ya got yourself a REEEEAL WEEEENNER here with this design:
Let's urge 'someone' to capitalize on it, huh?

I've had this design in my head for quite some time, and I finally took the time to put it onto paper :) . Oh, and it would be cool to have this or a similar design as one of the anniversary knives :D !

By the way, I think that design would look sharp in the Combat Grade with the Tan Micarta Handles.

What do you say? Who's up for one of these?

I'm up for one and ready to head on down to the plasma center to finance it. :D :D Andrew, that's a WONDERFUL design.

My $.02 on possible changes would be rough canvas micarta for even more aggression on the handle scales and thinner stock (3/16" distally tapering down to a touch under 1/8" near the tip) for use in softer vegetation with a rounded spine. Being INFI, I think it'd still stand up well to chopping woody brush.

Yours in nuclear Bolo-preciation,
Greg
