A different kind of dangler sheath...

I was shipped a knife that the customer wanted a dangler style sheath. Well, after some thought, I wasnt going to be able to do it easily. Since most dangler sheaths are for pouch sheaths, I had to find a way to move the pivot point up higher on the handle, which proved difficult since it has a handguard. Otherwise if I mounted the pivot ring at the handguard, the knife would flop over from the weight of the handle. I had thought of a upper handle retention, but that wasnt an option since the handle tapers toward the handguard and would not give a good retention at all. I had to get that pivot point up about 2 inches from the handguard. Doing it with just a piece of leather would have caused the handle to hang away the back of the sheath. So....after some more thought I came up with the idea of reinforcing the rear portion of the sheath. I found a piece of 1/16th thick brass. I cut it to length, and smoothed the edges

I then sandwiched the piece of brass between a piece of 8oz and 4oz leather.

...and I ended up with a rigid backing for the sheath.

Here is the result...

Thanks for looking!

Outstanding Sir, I have had the same problem with a Bowie with a large guard, I tried rawhide but didn't think of metal. By the way, you do nice stitching........Randy

 very well executed and a really well thought design job!

Very nice! One suggestion, when you stamp your maker's letters, I see that the corner of the stamp got away from you a bit from stamping too deep. You can fix this while the leather is wet with a spoon modeler.
