A different kind of sword

So I was looking through Kult of Athena. I was doing my usual eye browsing and i was in the spear and halberd section. I then came along a gothic style halberd head. It looks like this. http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=XB3941&name=Gothic+Halberd+Head

Anyways, I was thinking about turning the halberd head into a sword. Y'know, by just slapping on a shorter than normal wooden pole as a handle. The only draw back I could think of was the weight.

I just want honest opinions on the idea. No flames appreviated. LOL :)

I think it's a fun idea, and for me anyway that's the biggest part of collecting these weapons. It would probably be more of an axe type weapon than a sword, but it would be a fun project for you. Only of course attempt it however if you're confident you posses the know how and expertise to ensure the finished weapon is safe? You're right on the weight issue, the closer that blade is tp the hand the more awkward it will be to wield. Whatever you decide though it would be cool if you posted pics of your progress...

Good Luck and go for it :)

I guess it depends on your definition of a sword. To me, a sword means some fairly specific things in terms of construction, balance, edge geometry etc. What it doesn't mean is shorted halberd. Having said that to each his own. Be safe.
