A different path

In the Kremlin there's a light,
comrade Stalin works through the night.

The knife is 22 cm long. Its blade is 11 cm long, 3 cm wide and 5 mm thick at its base, forged of motorcycle chain on 5160 steel core. It is a san mai.
The handle is made of wenge and polished deer antler.
Its sheath is made of 3 mm thick cow hide.

I am not honoring everyone ;) He is just part of the past, which we must remember, exactly because what has happened.
Btw, at the time nobody knew that the ideal won't work. They firmly believed that it will!
It promised an utopia, a paradise here on Earth, where no one is in any kind of need, and after the Tzars who didn't care about common folk, I think it seemed quite good an alternative for the masses.

Such thinking, at its' best, reveals a complete lack of understanding of basic human nature.
Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely...

Yes, human nature... That's why I think that the marxist ideals will be revived at some point, when or if humans evolve past such things as greed and hunger for power.
If humans would posses a perfect conscience, doing good only because it is good, and not because from fear of the consequences of their actions, than the marxist ideals would emerge on its own. In such a world there would be no need for any higher supervision or authority at all.

I believe there are small tribal communities that put this practice into play and it works fairly well for them. It falls apart rapidly at larger society. I have no reference for this information as I believe I heard it in a TED talk about human psychology and then probably how that relates to servant leadership.

Back to the knife, does motorcycle chain create voids or anything like that? Generally I think your designs are really my thing and I can't help but be interested by the concepts. It's very different and there's something appealing about that alone. The overall shape on this one is pretty slick.

Yes, I also think that scale is important, at least now. I mean, if you personally know everyone in the community than it is a whole different scenario. You must keep up a good profile, because your survival might depend on it.
That's why I said "when or if humans evolve past such things as greed and hunger for power" - In this case everyone would behave decently no matter if you know or don't know the other one.

No, I almost never have voids, because I fill the gaps between the links with steel powder before forgewelding ;)
