My birthday is coming up, and I've decided to treat myself to a new fixed blade. I am currently debating between two knives:

1. Daniel Winkler Knives II Belt knife
http://www.winklerknives.com/knives.asp?id=156

2. Murray Carter Neck Knife

I really love the blade shape on the Winkler, and hear wonderful things about his knives as a whole. Anyone have one, or handled one before? I am a practitioner of a combatives system that has somewhat of a relationship with Daniel Winkler, and I hear great things about his products.

On the other hand, I hear wonderful things about Murray Carter's knives, and they certainly are gorgeous simply to look at. I lived in Japan for a while, so I have a certain appreciation for the attention to detail that exists in all Japanese crafts. I understand that Mr. Carter is a traditionally trained Japanese bladesmith, which encourages me.

Anyone help me with a recommendation either way?

Hey, I vote for the Winkler but I am a little biased.

You might want to post this question in the "Custom Knives" section. You might get a few more responses there.

the carters i have handled are like 3 to 3.5 in. blades. excellent small users. really the winkler would give you more utility due to shape. both guys are great knifemakers.if a smaller carry is your preference then go with the carter.
