This sub forum houses some of the most thoughtful, generous, and kind folks that I have ever had then pleasure to meet!

Earlyer this week an unexpected package arrived at my door. Inside was one of the most thoughtful and beautifully written thank you notes, along with some pieces of paperstone from a knife that ~P had built for her by a maker on these forums. pertinux remembered that I liked the color blue, and like to tinker a bit and thoughtfully sent these to me for some future project. I was truly touched by this act, and the thoughtfullness behind it!

Today another package arrived containing two very sweet old traditional knives, and some beautiful pieces of African Blackwood!
A Schrade Walden 233 serpentine jack, and a Scrade Walden 899 stockman with punch!!!

In the handwritten note with these, confucius37 mentioned that he rememberd me stating at some point that I liked my jacks with the pen in front of the main, and also thought I might like to tinker a bit with the stockman, and the Blackwood pieces! Well, African Blackwood is one of my favorites when polished up, and the knives a truly a joy to hold!

These not so random acts of kindness have truly made this week a special one for me! I am very touched...

Thank You Sarah!

Thank You Vic!

Great stuff Vic and Sarah, and a nice write-up from a very worthy recipient of your generosity :)

Vic & Sarah - that´s great :) I really like these threads.

Duane, that´s a great and thoughtful gift, my friend.

Thanks for sharing

Duane, I'm really happy that you liked all those things! I bought them at one point or another thinking I'd get around to doing my own little project (speaking of the blackwood and the stockman), but it seems like life is getting in the way so I was more than happy to send them to your very capable hands because I know they'll end up being much more valuable after you're done with em than what they are now!

The Schrade 233, well I just knew you'd like that one :) Use it well!

Make sure to post lots of pictures when you eventually use those :)
What exactly is paperstone? Is it something like paper micarta?

That's really nice. Kudos to the generous forum memebers and their random acts of kindness.
Seeing posts like these helps me to stay positive.

Paperstone uses pulped or ground paper in a plastic resin base. Paper micarta typically uses layers of sheets or fiber. That's my understanding of them at least.

Thanks Ed, we learn something new every day...
(Sorry for the short diversion :o)

Duane gave me a beautiful Case stockman through a giveaway last spring. I remain grateful for his kindness-- in that gift, and in the many other ways he's helped me and others here with his knowledge, pictures, etc.

A medium stockman with a tiny (but rapidly growing) Bevel:

I of course had no idea Vic was cooking up a surprise (supplying other surprise ingredients!) of his own, but am honored that the timing of our packages places me in such good company.

Make sure to post lots of pictures when you eventually use those :)

Yup. You can learn more than most people want to know about Paperstone by poking around here.

Me? I just wanted (the right) blue, which proved surprisingly difficult to find, at least within the immediate range of commonly used materials. Even within the Paperstone palette, their "Denim" looks like this on their site:

But this in Real Life:

(That's a Denim sample-- for all intents and purposes, Black-- atop a navy blue Moleskine notebook.)

So fun.

I'll write more about my search for Blue and landing upon (the right shade of) Paperstone when I give my knife its own thread in a couple weeks. ;)
