Stitches......

Well my Sunday night routine of touching up edges ended in disaster tonight.

Its my own fault really. I'm a young parent of a young child and we both are growing and learning things along the way. I was sitting at the table with 3 of my edc fixed blades, a bk14 a bjk 155, and a kfu. All sheathed mind you. And my son climbed on a chair and said " watcha doing?" So I told him and he sat there and watched for about 5 minutes as I put a wicked sharp edge on my bk14 on the waterstone. Since the others are convex I needed to load up the strop. I set the bk14 down in its sheath, and started loading up the leather.

I out of the corner of my eye I see my kid pick up the bk14. Now I should have reacted faster but since it was sheathed it was more of a lackadaisical motion to get it back from him. well don't you know the little sponge just happened to figure out how to unsheath the knife just as I was putting my hand in its way. The retention broke free, and the blade caught me between the pinky and ring finger knuckles on my hand. After a few choice words and a paper towel, I looked at the wound and yup you can see my pinky knuckle bone. So I'm posting this from my phone, in the ER, waiting for stitches. Let that be a lesson to ya. Be careful with what you Fisk.....

Not of the wound since i got it wrapped up now, but heres the culprit. dont fall for the innocent look..

bummer for you - glad the tyke wasn't hurt.

Yeh. Im glad it happened to me and was MY wake up call to be more careful and that he is getting old enough to actually do damage, instead of a lesson for him.

D'oh!!
At least it's a nice clean cut, right? Those tend to heal much faster....

Well was kind of hoping I could get my 5 fisked but I dont really want you to lop off a finger lol.

Ouch. Hope you heal soon. Like the others have stated, better you than the boy.

hopefully, this was an important lesson for both you and your son :)

heal well :D

Omg if it was my bk5, my hand would be split in half. or i would have lost the whole arm. That thing is just downright nasty sharp.

Sure he looks innocent enough, but you can see it in his eyes. He'll cut you. :D

Watch out! Once they get the taste for blood......(Insert Creepy Horror Movie Music Here). Bet you come up with a place to do your touch ups where no one can get close to your work. Hope the wound heals quick man.

Damn it Clich, quit being a wimp and tape that up yourself......;)

OH MY GOD, I see a resemblance from the kid from PET CEMETERY

My boy is three. I taught him very early not to touch a knife with out asking. Not that I leave them laying around, but even when I have some out of pictures or cleaning/sharpening or whathaveyou, he won't go and grab one.

So far he really seems to have a lot of respect for tools. Earlier today I let him use my edc to open a box and he thought it was about the coolest thing he'd ever done.

Good luck with your hand and your little guy. I'm glad it wasn't the kiddo that got sliced.

Glad to hear the boy is fine. I have a almost 6 year old daughter, that won't touch my knives at all, not worried about her at all. I have a 6 month old baby boy that I think I will have to watch like a hawk when he gets older. Stories like this will help me to be careful. Heal well.
