I checked French regulations under: interaction between the two sexes for men above 40:

The rule clearly states that :

- The age of the lady should be 1/2 the gentleman's age plus 5.
- Special exemptions exist regarding age but said lady's age cannot in any case fall below the age of 18.
- In those instances where an exemption might be needed, years will be deducted from the above formula as follows :
* One year for each of the gentleman's mariages that ended up in a divorce
* 2 years if said gentleman is still paying alimony,
* 5 years if you really want to p.... off your ex-wife
