Friday was one of those spectacular fall days.Hussled through what I had to do in a hurry so I could get out paddling.Arrived at my put-in place at 1230
The wind ws blowing from the north,if ive no destination in mind I always head into the wind on the way out
I never seen another soul or boat had the lake to myself
There was on the lake many floating dead Hemlock Looper moths and the weather was warm enough for a flight of ants that were also dying and floating. The biomass that the shear numbers of them floating was astounding. The local saegulls where making a feast of eating along with some migrating Phalaropes bobbing and spinning among the dead eating to fuel their flight south, also on the bounty were some mallards ,widgeons. Not to be outdone the fish were also rising to this bounty
Ants getting ready to fly
I paddled steady northward and the wind began to drop
My ever vigilant canoe mate out to lunch
Speaking of lunch I was having such a good time I ate on the fly
One of my many paddles using this one lately
Got tired of the dead weight so I let Libby run and swim along shore of a way
Winters coming folks to this country anyway
It was amazing to see all the food nature had provided floating on the water. There was also floating seeds from fireweed. The water was covered with all that edible stuff.I also saw a bat flying during the day, guess at this time of year they waste no time to eat to bulk up for migration or hibernation, depending on their habit. Here in BC some head south some hide
Thanks
