I recently broke down and purchased a Junk Yard Dog II. I've never been a huge fan of the handle markings, but I love the shape. As a result, I'm working on a pair of Amboyna burl scales. One side is complete. It's a little crazy, but I had some spare amboyna laying around.

I'll post good photos as soon as I get my camera back.

I like it! The way you've contoured the handle reminds me of Tim Galyean's 'Punk', off which the JYD design is based, IIRC.

Thank you for the kind words.

The contouring turned out really nice. It was necessary with the thick stock I was using. It will be a little trickier incorporating the clip on the other side.

I put that scale together yesterday morning. It was actually pretty quick. The other scale will be more difficult (the hexagonal countersink), but I know how to do it now.

phillip, as usual. gorgeous and wonderful work. so im curious what you plan on doing with the blur. also, what knives would you feel like working on? i've got a bunch of kershaws that might need some new clothes :)

Thank you. I'm thinking of replacing the Blur's Trac-tec inserts with slightly raised wood inserts.

When looking for a knife to work on, I look for non-structural scales. Such as those with steel liners. Those seem to work the best.

Hey Phillip,
As usual, the scale looks great!! That's a great idea about the Blur. I love my all black ENER-G II, but my original ENER-G II doesn't get much pocket time because of the Trac-tec. I've talked with STR about doing a carbon fiber inlay in it's place, but some exotic wood would look really good as well. You may receive a PM from me very soon!;)

By the way, I just noticed you're in Butte. Here is a pic of an old bar clock that my dad won from a bartender in a dice game back in the late sixties when passing through Butte with a buddy:D What do you think??
