Well guys, you know we all have good days and bad days, but some days just go to the top of the charts, like a day at the OKCA April show and sale for example.
I am going to tell you of a day I will never forget ! It actually started on Friday with a gal asking me to appraise a Kershaw knife , it was a 2110 with a Oregon Jasper ( agate) handle and engraved bolsters, it was the only one I had ever seen up close. I knew I had to have this knife, but I also had to be honest and tell her that I would mark it at least $250, I knew at that point I had out priced myself so I took some pics and moved on. Well on Saturday I walked by her table and she said after she saw the look on my face when I saw it , that I had to have it , and she gave it to me for $150. That would have been enough excitement for me for a day, but it was only just beginning.
At around 1:00 PM , I noticed a man studying my Kershaw display across the isle , he turned and came over to my table and said to my friend Randy, I am looking for Dave Anderson. Randy said well that is him right there at which the man extended his hand toward me and said Hi, Pete Kershaw. Now you might not think this was a big deal, but for me , having never met him and being an admirer and collector of Kershaw knives as long as I have, it was huge !!! He said he had never been to the show and had heard of me through a person in Portland and was told I would be here with my display. We talked for quite sometime , exchanged emails and took some photos and we moved on.
Wow what a day , couldn't possibly get any better, right ? Wrong, after the show on Saturday evening we have an awards banquet and blades that were ground the previous year in the grinding competition are passed out to custom makers who finish them, and then they are given as awards. I would not have dreamed that I would receive an award for my Kershaw display, but hey, seems to have been my day !! It was a day I will not soon forget, or ever for that matter. Thanks for reading.
