Trent's father was a sheepman/rancher/cowboy/mountain man in southern Colorado during the 40's. The last of a dying breed they say. He had his horse and his Winchester .25 lever action and a bed roll. That's all he needed. And knives of course. He instilled in young Trent the love of knives. They compared Buck 110's. Trent showed him his new Schrade 158OT when he bought it. He showed him how to clean a brook trout with his Case XX folder. The old man laughed when Trent showed him his Pakistani 110 knockoff.

Trent started buying hatchets on EBAY in March 2007. He wanted to buy ONE hatchet that he could practice throwing with. Like the one he bought at a mountain man "rendezvous" in Creed, Colorado the summer before. So he bought a vintage Norlund. Then a L.L. Bean head. Next was a Miller's Falls. The he started buying fixed blades. A Western F39 here. A Camillus marine knife there. Toss in a M7 Conetta bayonet for good measure. He was hooked on cutlery collecting. He even started going to thrift shops and checking out the kitchen knives in the huge bins. He sold some on EBAY. Bought even more than "some" as well. He mustered up some money to buy some display cases. He increased his human capital by joining up on Bladeforums.com

Trent really wanted an "authentic" TOMAHAWK. Well, a 20th century authentic tomahawk anyways. He saw a Norlund AXE that had tomahawk stamped on it. But it was an AXE. Too dam big Trent mumbled. He searched on EBAY for TOMAHAWK but saw nothing except that dam Norlund AXE. He bought a few more cool hatchets in the mean time......

He started looking through his dad's old tools looking for any cool stuff to keep. Maybe a Stanley planer. Or a Millers Falls nail punch. Perhaps a Craftsman level. He found all those and more. As he was going through a vintage orange crate (with label) filled with old wrenches and hammers he spied it!!! "What the fuck is this?", he said. He picks it up. "Sweet!! It's a hatchet!!! Hmmm....I don't remember my dad having a hatchet like this. I thought he had an old WWII green handled one he used", he thought to himself. Maybe it's a Norlund he thought. His mind was racing. "Cool a True Temper. I don't have a True Temper in my collection....". He looks closer. "It's a True Temper TOMAHAWK!!! W00t!!! Score!!!!". How could he have missed this? True Temper made a hatchet with TOMAHAWK stamped on it??!! Wow. And here it was. Sitting in his mom's garage for 20+ years. Thank god she didn't sell it at one of her garage sales. He's loves the Anti Politically Correct model name. It makes him laugh. It will go good next to his Vintage Disney Tonka (the indian) book he found. He wonders if some Native American, somewhere, is pissed at the name. Trent continues to chuckle with an evil smirk on his face

So now Trent's hatchet collection is complete. He no longer "needs" any more hatchets to use or for his collection. He vows to never buy another hatchet again. He might even sell a few he doesn't really use or like. He no longer scours EBAY looking for that authentic 20th century hatchet. He no longer cares about bidding on that Craftsman mini hatchet he saw the other day. He has the Old Man's hatchet. He sits and thinks about it's history and uses and owners like he does all his knives and collectibles. How much did his dad pay for it? Where did he live at the time? Was this his backup hatchet? If that old True Temper could talk.....
