I came acoss this on one of the YouTube channels I subscribe to, and I'm posting this cuz I'm sure I'm not the only person who seems unable to master the featherstick, lol. Like for one I didn't know about using your chest to hold the stick both hands are free. I figure this will be helpful to at least a few people like me so here it is

I've watched this before, but it's always good to revisit thoughts and ideas to remember what you've forgot. One thing I've learned through my own practice, is to make several of these and to split the wood down into very fine strips (think Popsicle thickness). Adding those to your repertoire, you can have a knee high fire almost instantly.

Thanks for sharing!

EXACTLY. If this was say, a custom bushcraft knife - the curls would have curled and lit themselves.

Everyone knows - it isn't the knowledge that you have or the time you spend in the woods - but the amount you spend on your gear. Read Nessmuck, Kephart, and Kochanski - they all agree.

Yeah, use whatever knife you have that works. I get tired of so much gear hype for hunting and fishing, the same goes for camping and woods skills. Makes you wonder if some would have to coordinate their clothing to match the patina on their blades. Does this patina make my butt look big?

No, it not the patina fault. :p

Very good video. Had never thought of using the longer stick in order to free up both hands. Gotta give this a try soon.

It is funny to see all of the very high priced bushcraft knives yet over and over again the little lowly Mora's show up doing some great work. Have one, love it, but it's not my go to knife.
