Here are a few Buck 110's that I rehandled using different gemstones. I thought I would share the pictures with you guys. Like MM, I really enjoy using this material. It polishes up just beautiful!:)

Are those "re-conststuted" gemstones or natural? I have been considering doing one in tigereye and was wondering if it would be feasible.

Peter

It is reconstituted gemstone material. Actually, I make these for a distibuter. I have 13 more to finish in the shop right now! I really enjoy embellishing the knives.:)

Eric/Arksnives,

Are these "pearl MICA"? Still trying to find someone who knows what the heck is pearl MICA. Several knives on ebay with "pearl MICA" scales.

Hoe Down...
Maybe ya missed it, but I posted a link that descibed mica. It's a rock, or more specifically, a silicate mineral.
As for "pearl"...perhaps it is related to the coloring or pattern?
Grab Your Partner...Dosie Doe...No Cowboy Best Call My Sis a Hoe... I crack myself up :)

Goose,

I don't think the Pearl mica handled knives are anything but colored plastic....That is getting called Pearl mica  due to it's looks. Maybe we can get HOE3 to put a flame to one of his knives and we will see if it melts :p . Ok harry, first sniff your knife and tell us what is smells like, then give it a little taste test, then flame it and repeat the last steps. If it looks like a melted candle after the test.....it's plastic....Oh, don't forget to post the results from each test....and pic's also. "Just kidding" I don't think those are mineral or stone....just swirled plastic resin of some kind. But, I could be wrong again  .

Hi Arks,

Can you post a better link to your pic's (larger). I know they are awsome....I'd like to see a close up to enjoy the colors in your stone work.

Thank you

JB, when I get home tonite I will torch one of mine and provide a full "report" with photos! Lemma see here....which one is the ugliest?:p BTW, I missed two of those DBM oak shelves you have on ebay. One auction was for TWO for $202 total!!

Goose, you be careful now so you dont fall out of your chair!:D

What an odd test...but oddly familiar...(no pun intended)... :p

...Always looking for a means to categorize our Bucks...Lessee...I believe that so far we've sniffed the steel, the bolsters, the leather sheaths and someone may have taken a bite   out of a scale somewhere along the line...I love those "definative" tests...LMBO...:D:p

Here are the URL's of the 2 pictures to view them larger(I think):p  I believe the mica pearl is pure plastic but not 100% sure. This gemstone material is 86% gemstone and 14% resin which makes it workable with regular tools.

Eric

I get it "Substitute for mica" = Formica. Invented for electrical insulation in the year 1912.

Wow! Those are really beautiful.

I may have to try that myself someday. Care to share how you do it? :)
