A Few Camillus Questions

I've got a Camillus 886 (I think it is anyway. It's a large lockback like the Buck 110) that was customized by Santa Fe Stoneworks. I've just gotten it back from them and had it reconditioned. The did a good job, but there's a fair amount of blade play until it locks open. It's also pretty hard to unlock. It could just need some oil though.

Anyway, would this be worth anything in user condition?

Also, my dad has a couple of Camillus knives. One of them is the old military issue, all metal folder that has the bottle and can opener and is marked US I think. The blade has the year of manufacture on it, too. The tension bar (or whatever it's called) that is on the bottle and can opener is broken. Is there a way to fix this?

He also has an old electrician's knife (the one with the flat head screwdriver that locks with a brass looking liner lock) that's a user but in okay shape. And he has a Cuda EDC (the Taiwan one with an AUS-8 blade) that's in good shape, but still a user.

Are any of these worth anything or should we just keep on using them?

Thanks guys!!

It is odd that they didn't fix the blade play on the 886 because it isn't that hard. If it is hard to unlock first clean it real good. Put some dish washing liquid in the pivot and work it in, run it under hot water as you work it and that should clean out the pivot area.

The military "demo" knife is not worth much with a broke back spring except as parts. It can be fixed. See the other thread on knife repair.

The electrician's knife is a good user in the tool box, they are all over the bay and don't sell for that much. TL-29 is what to put in for a search.

Cudas are always big sellers on the bay just because they are Cudas.

Any idea what the blade steel is on the 886? It was probably an early to mid 90's made knife if I recall correctly.

Couple of my 866's (I have three).

Oh I doubt it's older than that. It was purchased as a gift for me from some place in the local mall. They had several from Santa Fe Stoneworks for sale. The place wasn't open very long so I doubt it would have been made much before that. The one I have has nickel bolsters and no pins in the handles. It has some fancy scales on one side and regular dark wood scales on the other. It's a nice looking knife!

Looking through the catalogs, I show the first mention of the 866 in 88 with no pins also in the 90 with no pins. In the 92 it has pins and is gone in the 2001 catalog. In the past I had a thought that the pins came about the time of the Western buy in 1991.

Okay, so maybe it is older. Perhaps it was just old stock. Any idea what the blade steel is?

Beaufort, eh? I'm in Lexington. Been down your way quite a few times. Nice town!

Been here a little over 16 years. I like it but my wife is a big city person. Thanks for the steel type, Vit_213. I am a Western knife person with only a few Camillus Knives.
