A few chopper ideas

This is my first post to BF and I thought I'd post a few pics of some choppers I've drawn up. They're all roughly 16" long and I was thinking of making them from 3/16" or 1/4" stock (not sure on alloy yet) and using G10 for the handles.
These are my first attempts at designing a knife and I'm eager to get some feedback. Let me know what you think, good or bad. Oh, and that is a 6" ruler...

Thanks!

Jason

I like the first one but I would sculpt the handle like the top view shows for the second knife. I don't mind the second one either, but a recurve that large will be quite difficult to grind if you haven't made a knie before. It will also be a bear to sharpen. I would like to see what you come up with for smaller blade designs as I like your drawings. More artistic talent than me that's forsure.

Yeah, save number 2 for later. Personally I like #3
I'd suggest going 3/16 rather than 1/4 to start. Also, I hope you have a decent grinder because hand filing 10+in of 3/16" or 1/4" is going to be a whole lotta work.

In drawing number one , is that a pin or a forward lanyard hole ?
On drawing number two , it seems you also have a forward lanyard tube ?
Drawings one and three look to be the most feasable to make right away .
Not that drawing number two looks bad (In fact all of your drawings look good),but it's a bit more complex due to the re-curve and the swedge etc..

The middle one has the best handle and should have good balance with the swedge. Are you making this knife yourself or having a Custom maker create it?

The recurve on the middle blade will be very difficult to grind even for an experienced maker.

The only one that looks like a camp chopper is #3. #2 looks neat, but probably is of little use beyond cutting saplings and branches. #1 would be fine if you were cutting off beet tops in the field.

When designing a knife, think about what the edge will be doing and how much of that edge will actually be in use.
