It was the sun breaking through the tree cover that kept catching my eye today so I had to get a few pics.
Fall is definitely all around us now.
I took my JK Hiker out today, this was my very first custom and is still one of my favourite blades. It kinda reminds me of myself, it doesn't really excel at anything but can get by for most tasks. It's tough, practical in design and above all else it's dependable. It could never compete with the fancy Woodlore clones when it comes to Bushcrafting but then again I'll never be no Ray Mears no matter what knife I have. It can do everything I require such as carving trap triggers, making one stick fires and frog gigs etc. It can also chop okay given it's size but once again you would never expect it to compete with the big 7" chopper type blades.
To me this is as close to a general woods-bummin knife as you can get. If I'd never got hooked on these survival forums I could quite propbably have roamed the woods quite happily for the rest of my years carrying just this knife.........if only we could turn the clocks back eh !
I'd always thought of Cedar as quite a soft wood but this piece I carved today was damn hard stuff, check out how tight the grain is !
Hope everyone is enjoying this awesome time of the year !
