latest razors out the shop XHP steel. maple walnut and bog oak for handles. 7/8 for the most part but the skinny one is 5/8 (the 7/8s are kind of 8/8s since there is spine work on the top of the blade but i only count the hight edge to grind ridge )

Those look really nice.

For those that have not had the luxury of trying one of Mr. Harner's XHP offerings, I have honed and used a couple, and can answer some questions if anyone has any.

The bog oak one is driving me crazy. They are all beautiful but that one just screams CLASS to me.

Mack, there is a third kind of cool associated with bog oak...particularly on an ultra modern version of a very old sort of tool.

Save your pennies, my friend. You will not be disappointed;)

Pennies are being saved.
bog oak is my go to for black wood that is stable
Does it compare pretty well to ebony? It looks to have a nice fine grain and a classic ebony look.

the grain is more open then ebony but i have had cracking problems with ebony so the switch to bog oak was a no brainer. black as night strone and stablized had to beat that (ooo and 5400 years old is cool too)

Thanks for the info. Yeah, knowing that you're working with something that old has got to be cool.

Is there any people on here who can forge, heat treat, and temper razor blanks. Then put a rough half hollow grind on them and sell in that state. Material being 01 or 1070 to 1095. The forging process has me stumped n I don't have a double grinder but I love refurbishing straights. I hand sand all of my razors then make the scales by hand with a rasp a couple files and a load of sandpaper. Gives you a sort of connection with your project.
