The last sheath is a Horizontal Rig and is designed so that it can be put on your belt with out threading the belt thru it . You just unsnap it, drape it over the belt and resnap it.
I started making this style of sheath about 38 years ago but for another reason. My Uncle who helped me get started making knives(He purchased my first belt sander for me) never wore a belt just suspenders and this style sheath would snap around the uprights so he could wear a sheath knife.
