While i have been buying and collecting knifes off and on for most of my life. I can honestly say i have never payed more then 50.00 bucks for a knife. Mostly i pick knifes up at yard sale for like 5 or 10 bucks. i picked up a tomahawk black folder with what looks like oyster handles with XL0897 Stainless china on the blade. i paid like 10 bucks for that knife which looked like it has never been used. i also picked up a colt folder with a fireman emblem on the blade and red handle that knife has been a trusty friend for about 5 years or so i have that on me when ever i go out and work. Paid the big old sum of 5 bucks for it. I have a few other knifes nothing great but fun to sharpen and look at and show off to friends

There are tons of great knives for under $50, and even a few gems in the $5-$10 range. Probably the least expensive knife I've ever bought was a $1.39 Imperial when Schrade went out of business a few years back. :) I've scored a few closeout Victorinox for under $10 each, and of course accumulated a few of the bargain-priced Opinel and Mora knives.

My point, don't get hung up on price but get the best you can for your $$.

And welcome to Bladeforums!

I'd tell you to save your money, and buy quality knives. You could find nice knives under fifty dollars if you do a little homework. I've learned that all the crap I bought a long time ago could have added up to a few nice Spyderco's. Garage sales are a good place on budget, but usually a knife that has China 440 Stainless on it is junk. USA, German, Sweden, etc. are usually of good, if not great quality. Good luck at the sales.

I don't know if that qualifies as a collection - knife ownership for sure though! Keep coming back! :)
