Here is a few that I did last night. I need to assemble the RAT-7 today. Also, the Izula sheath was a experiment. I put a base coat of coyote brown and then added some od green scales. I like the way it came out....looks pretty cool in person. The last one was a M1A stock I got from another forum. It was already painted with something but I want a solid color. I went with with Coyote Brown.

Nope....Duracoat. Thanks for the compliment. I am getting better and better with each knife I do. If you look at my signature line there is more pics of other things I have done in my photo bucket account.

I've never used it but I thought you had to heat it in an oven once it was sprayed..

I'm looking to do one of my Izula's, does it wear well on a knife?

btw, looks great..

even if he did heat them, as long as he didnt hit 400*+ it wouldnt effect the heat treat.

Here's a thought... what about stripping and polishing an entire IZULA to a mirror finish. Then applying a clear duracoat glossy finish to it. THAT would peak my interest.... (if it exists/is possible)

You are thinking about Gun Kote. I use that as well. Gun Kote is a great product as well. You have to pre-heat the knife....apply the product and then heat again to 350 for an hour. The advantage to Gun Kote is there is that the cure time is minimal. They both wear great. I did a RAT in Gun Kote and it did not affect the heat treat at all. Now I couldn't do the sheath as I doubt it would stand up to being baked at 350 for an hour. Gun Kote makes a air cure product but I just have not tried it yet.

Duracoat makes a clear coat.....I have not tried to mirror finish and apply it to see how it looks.....looks like another project I will have to try out.

As far as a pocket clip.....not to sure. You can send me your pocket clip and I will coat it for you to test that out.

If anyone is interested in this and does not have the time or resources......send me your knife and for a small fee (cover materials, time and shipping) and I will strip, and coat your knife or anything else you want Duracoated.

I've got a stripped Izula with semi polished blade.. its a pain to polish to mirror believe me.. and I'm using power tools... that's why I'm now consider customizing this thing...

J- do you have bright colors? like red, orange, yellow, heck even purple.. If I can't achieve my mirror on an Izula I want this thing to stand out...

Also, you don't coat the edge do you? if so does the coating sharpen off easily?

Thanks,

I have a bunch of colors on hand but I can order any color you want. Go to duracoats web site and pick out a color. I do the entire blade the letter it sit for a day and then sharpen it.

Not sure about powder coating... if you have to use heat then possibly its done before the heat treatment is done

Hmmm I've been playing around with powdercoating my Izula. I'll post some pics when I'm done. As well as Some strength tests. It cured at 450 for about 5 minutes, then cooks at 400 for 20. I wonder if the strength of the knive as been compromised.

I guess you will find out when you go to use it. Post live and results.... I am interested to hear more.
