Found these at a knife show yesterday, both are used but all blades are tight with no play and strong back springs, and nearly full blades. A lot of patina from age from though.

Both seem to be from the same series, with identical brown bone handles and shields, and I will hazard a guess that both are Boker made, but knifaholic is WAY better at spotting makers than me, so I hope he'll way in.

3335 Scout (I was real glad to get this one, the last 3 JP Scouts I have seen always had at lest one blade that wouldn't open, but all are good to go on this one)

5517 Large Congress (and I mean large, 4 1/4" closed, all blades have half-stops and could just about take a finger off on closing! the back springs on this one could substitute for bear traps!)

nice knives...I agree on the Boker heritage...thought to me the bottom one looks like delrin. Great old carbon steel...most likely 1095.

Boy, does this bring back memories! I still have my 3335 Scout that I bought from the local Western Auto store...when I was 9 years old in 1962! It's still in rather good shape, especially for a knife that was used hard by a kid!

Thanks!
Ron

I think your right, for their age, the handles on the Congress are a little to perfect, no shrinkage where they fit up against the bolster or liners at all.

That seems a little odd for a well used knife pushing 40 years old???

Last Confederate, are there stars on the back of the main blade of your Primbles?

Yes, both have a star with the model number. I've read that the star tells you which company made the knife, but over the years I've seen different companies associated with the star, so I am never sure about it.

I once read that the star means it was Schrade, but to my knowledge, Schrade in it's entire history never made a Congress pattern, until the recent Taylor/Schrade imports.

Thanks LC,
I had all ways heard that the Star denoted that it is a Boker. Never seen anything in writing, just from talking to some local collectors. Nice knives by the way.

Every one that I have ever seen with a star, was Boker made at least as I see them.

Schrade made both 2-blade and 4-blade congress patterns in several sizes in the older stampings.

I have a 4" 4 blade congress Schrade Cut, a 3-1/2" 4 blade congress in Schrade Cut, and a 3-1/2" 4 blade congress in Schrade Walden, all in bone handles.

They also made a 3" or 3-1/8" 4 blade congress, and that one was made into the 70's with delrin handles. The 3-1/2" and smaller one were also made in 2 blade versions.

Your right, I got my brain crosswired, when Taylor/Schrade came out with the "Schrade Classics" Sowbelly 2 years ago, it was the Sowbelly that one of the guys in the Schrade Forum was torqued about, because Sowbelly's were not an original Schrade pattern.

I either need more sleep or MORE
