Larry,
I always enjoy your Solar shots.:cool:Thanks for the pics ,never fails to give perspective on how small we really are.
That top one is my favorite.

Doug :)

Thanks Larry.

Those are indeed beautiful and professional looking shots. I wouldn't think twice if someone said those were from a Science mag.

Amazing!

Theres just something about them though, something I can't quite put my finger on, that's telling me these are digital renders and not photographs, even though I know they are

Very interesting to see what the sun is really like, and not just a solid ball of light :)

Not interested???

Larry I think your pics are fascinating..

could you shoot some of the moon when its full and post those too??

thanks for sharing.

Ren

Beautiful and fascinating pics.
What kind of equipment are you using to get these images?

Thx everybody for the kind words. The solar pictures you are looking at I took with my Solar Max double stacked 90 mm telescope with a BF30 blocking filter which brings the bandwith down to 0.5 angstrom. What it actually does is isolates the Hydrogen-Alpha wavelength and rejects all other light. This way you can see sun spots, flairs, prominences and filaments. The sun looks red because it is in the Hydrogen spectrum. When I process it I lighten the color, otherwise everything you see is what I see. I use a high quality Cannon digital camera. For observing the Planets and the moon I use a TeleVue 102 apo refractor with a 4" aperture.
Here is a shot of the full moon for Ren. Anybody interested or have any questions feel free to PM or e-mail me. I would be glad to help you as best I can. Also if anybody is interested I am sure there are Astronomy shows in your area from time to time. If it is a sunny day I'm sure they will have solar telescopes set up and let you view the sun.

Larry, those solar photos, especially the first one, are pretty damn impressive for someone who doesn't do this for a living.

Thx, If you have good optics and a good camera with a little patience it's really not that hard. I have been doing it for a while and I've gotten a lot better.

most excellent pics! do you have any that are higher res? I would like to make some backgrounds for my computer desktop:thumbup:
