A few "new" knives...

I've had pretty good luck scrounging up old knives lately. I'd say I paid an average of about $3 each for all of these. Some were a little pricier (the Queen and the Schrade-Walden). It's my first queen, and I've always wanted the SW, so I opened my wallet a little wider. But all told, these cost me less than a nice dinner. Some were MIGHTY dirty. The Wards and the Western had so much funk in the liners I'm surprised the blades could even close. I actually gagged a little. But after repeated wd-40, hot water, wd-40, compressed air, mineral oil, hot water and soap, tri-flo treatments, I came out with what you see here. Pretty stoked. I got some more I need to clean that I'll post eventually, need to take a break from huffing fumes.

BTW, I'd be interested in any info, observations, etc. There is always something I don't know. Anyway, enjoy!

Thanks for looking and sharing any info/thoughts you might have.

You got some great knives, that still have a lot of life left in them.

You got so many though, I can see why the fumes would get to you :D

Great score! Sounds and looks like you have some labor involved. The Case looks great.Great looking bone.Ive never seen that Western Barlow. You really did well.

They all are very cool but that Queen is great!

Nice haul. That swell end jack , Imperial, is an oldie.
Really like that Case, can't tell, is it a 6344?
I have a large number of knives in the exactly the same condition, really put to use.

LKJW,
Mate!!...if you have paid around $3.00 each as a general rule...you are a legend, yuo have some nice Vintages there...that old timer 120T has has hardly any loss on that blde...I think they are great knives, also I do agree whole heartedly about that Queen..very nice looking older knife :)
Another thing that grabbed me was that red bone Case..nice

But the one that I realy like is the Schrade Walden...that is a real nice knife.....so..well done bud,

And again. agreed on the Western Barlow, but is there all that many Wards out there also?...I think wards was a Hardware brand was it-please forgive me if Im wrong on that?

ps..is it me? or...that Imperial with the black composite jigged handles...the blades look fantastic-just imagine if that knife had nice jigged bone?...I think that knife is on of the better composite Imperial knives I have seen ( although I stand to be corrected on that remark )

I think you did very well. I like the Case stockman and the Camillus jack in the same picture.

Nice haul. What did you find a boxful? I have that Forest Master in my tool box.

Thanks everybody. I'll try to address direct Q's/observations:

338375 - You don't know the half of it, buddy. My wife made me open a window so I wouldn't die. She doesn't like the way oil and wd-40 smells. Go figure.

Seals - Thanks man. There was some elbow grease used. I love resurrecting the really ugly ones. :)

Protourist - I agree. Love the tl-29 pattern, and a QUEEN. Never seen one before. Not much snap left, but it's found a good place to retire. And for a happy empire, there should only be one queen. Might keep it like that for a while.

Ray - Close, it's a 6333. Something about that knife. That was a Phoenix from the ashes, too. Looked like garbage. The more I cleaned it, the more my hands shook with excitement. ;)

George - I agree, man. New knives don't do much for me anymore.

CCM - I don't know about legend. Lucky. And willing to see past years and years of neglect and fix it. Ah, screw it. Legend works. (and I may have underestimated a little...but not too much)
And yeah, the Schrade Walden...I have a lot of Old Timers, but I've always wanted one. Had to have it. Paid. Didn't need as much cleaning though. And I agree, I'm amazed how much blade is left on a lot of the old knives I get. And yeah, the western and wards have gotta be pretty rare. I never saw one. Agreed on the Imperial too. Someday the scales may be replaced, they aren't holding up as well as the steel.

TLARbb - Thanks man. My wife took the pics, but I did "pair em up". But my pics are usually garbage. My wife majored in photography.

navihawk - LOL. No, I did get some nice knives thrown in with others. I just had a good streak. And a lot of them looked like less than $3 before I got to scrubbing.

Glad you guys enjoyed em. I'll put more up. My wife doesn't get it, but I tell her I like looking at everybody's knives and y'all do too. She stays up til 3 looking at shoes online. It takes all types.

duncan Wards & Sears were the giants of department stores for many years. everything from auto, clothes, appliances, sporting goods etc. wards went into a tailspin in early 80s -90s & left the scene. i do'nt know about sears but wards had contract knives made by camillus, imperial, & others for many years. my freezer is a wards bought in 1981 & still ticking.--dennis

A pocket knife should last a long time, but that is one OLD freezer. :)

Thank you for that Dennis, all these bits add up big time, so Thanks very much

It's interesting...my wife and I were just talking the other day about how you used to be able to get really nice clothes at Wards and Mervyns and Sears. Wal-Mart and Target sure changed things.

That old Colonial Stockman looks like my old Imperial Stockman, my very first knife! I found it while playing in the back yard in 1970, and I was one happy 7 yr. old when my mom let me keep it! Looks just like it! All nice finds!

Hi,

It would be Montgomery Wards not Duncan. I know, picky picky. :D:D But so much of my childhood has memories of shopping in the Ward's wishbook.

My very first new shotgun was a Ward's Western Field, (a Stevens 311), 16ga. SxS. Mail ordered and bought for the princely sum of $120 delivered!
