Here are some of the EDC models i've been making lately and have been received well. I now have a soft spot for these small fixed blades, and really enjoy making them as much as the big stuff! They are all about 7" OAL with 3" blades with sculpting on the handles that make for a nice, secure grip. I do differnt handle and slightly differnt styles on each, so no two are alike.

Those are just beautiful and anyone would be proud to have one. A great blend of function and art, from the materials to the sculpted handles to the shape of the blades. The sheaths are very nice too. Just one question - would a little choil make resharpening easier? I don't know myself if it would, but just wondering if you had thought about it and decided that you didn't want one?

I had thought about a choil...I tend to not like them as they snag on things while cutting, but am not so opposed to them that if someone wanted one, I wouldn't put one in. Perhaps on the next one I do, i'll add one just for kicks! Thanks for the kind comments, as well! The ironwood one is currently for sale in the maker's forum, too, and after that, it'll probably be a little while before I do these again as I have a number of orders and designs I want to try out in the coming months.

I LOVE the sculpted handles!! And I LOVE the choices of burls that you chose.

A few more....

Those are GREAT looking knives Dave! You've inspired me to put a little more into the sculpting of my handles. I've been wanting to do something along the lines of yours, but with a modified parrot-head on the butt. Can't describe the damn thing - hope I can carve it:D Anyway, very nice work as usual:thumbup:

Regards,

Dave

Those look real good to me David. That ironwood number at the end is my fave.

Those are some good looking knives. I bet you put about as much work in the handles as you did the blade. Really nice stuff.

Pretty slick, David. Your stuff has just continued to get better and better since I first got on the forums. Did you learn knifemaking in reverse order? lol. You seemed to have had that handle sculpting nailed from the get go and your blades are what have imporved over the last couple of years. Are you a recovering woodworker of some kind?:D

Haha!

The handles have always just been an extension of what felt "right" to me and looked right. Ive never been a fan of "sterile" feeling or looking handles or handle materials. I did woodworking with my father for years as I grew up, so maybe that has something to do with it. For blades, I focused on HT as much as possible early on. Now that I feel I have that really nailed down, im beginning to really play with finishes and extend the hamon work ive been doing since the beginning. I have some really cool stuff in the works... (like differentiially heat treated guards with hamons in them)

After some orders are finished, I am going to do some more traditional honkin' bowies with guards and thru-tangs and get into forging a bit more just to extend my range a bit.
