I finally broke down and acquired a digital camera - a scanner is fine for taking pics of pocket knives, but large knives and swords are a definite challenge;). Please bear with my first attempts. Tomorrow I'll read the instructions:o.
First, three fullered blades from HI - the original dui chirra, a Foxy Folly, and a YCS.

Another shot of the dui chirra with the scabbard and all the tools.

And here's the famous HI Christmas katana.

Here's one that has never been shown. Uncle Bill had the blade made as a special order for John Powell back during the Shop 1 days. It wasn't made by a regular HI kami but by somebody who was known to John and Bill at the time only as "the Royal kami". The cho is in the form of a Fleur-de-lis. Grip (of American walnut) and scabbard by Terry Sisco; buttcap and sash buttons are oosic.

Thanks Berkley. The photos came out fine. Wish mine were that good. Those are excellent khuks there. I'll be going back and forth between the photo of your Foxy and the recent ones that have been for sale. The recent ones have more of a belly (a la the YCS) than the one you're showing. And speaking of YCS, its good to get a glimpse of the "starred" keeper on the buttcap. It has to be an old one. (Drooling) Did Sanu make that one?

Keep them coming if you can. Thanks again.

Rick

Berkley, I noticed you called those little protrusions on the scabbard 'sash buttons'... I've been wondering (after seeing them on a DOTD) what those were for a while now. Could you, or someone else that knows, please give a little more info about their intended use?

Hi Berk,

Email sent on the Fleur-de-lis/ John Powell special. :p

Just another lost vault found!

Thanks for the kind words. The YCS is by Sanu; bolster and buttcap are silver (not sterling, but still pretty fancy for my heavy-duty user:) ). Here's a very old picture of sash carry - the buttons keep it from sliding down through the sash:

Berkley,
Nice photos!
Is that FF one of the couple that came in during the attempts to get the 17 inchers made? About 21" and 28 oz or so? I grabbed one of those and feel it is an incredable khuk. Nice collection of some of HI's older great blades.

Reading about the Christmas Katana made me remember that Yangdu told me she had another "Beautiful Sword" she was going to raffle off. We spoke on the phone about in April (yeah a while ago). Makes me wonder if we saw it and it was sold off instead or she still has it? I was all psyched up for a raffle, though I never win those things. I kinda hope she still has it and is reminded to run the raffle when she reads this post...

I also noted Danny's post about gearpay, which I think is now gone. Gpal allows raffle payments, like gearpay did. Like gearpay, I also note that even though people promise, as "gun, 2nd Am, or Freedom Loving Patriot" types always seem to promise, no massive sign up has occurred. Paypal is still the payment of choice, even though they have all their rules about what you can and cannot buy. Maybe someday all of those folks named will wake up and realize these payment services only stay in business if we use them. Want a choice? Dump paypal & sign up and USE Gpal as much as possible.

Forget about reading the instructions...ya doin' just fine!:D
Those are possibly the best looking HI models for me right there!
I can't stop drollin'.:o...such a sucker for fullers:D

That "special" khuk is sooo flawless, you can tell it's been made by a master forger.

Ah, thanks Berkley, for the pic. I guess I was just lazy, did some more searching and it seems pics of sash carry aren't THAT tough to come by.

So then, if I'm looking at those pictures correctly, the buttons don't act like traditional buttons, they're more like fixed stops on the scabbard?

Y'all shouldn't encourage a guy with a new camera - next thing you know, I'll be posting pics of the dog, cats and parrot:p.
Actually, I tried posing one pic with the parrot, but she started taking the karda out of the scabbard so I gave it up before I got hurt. She's dangerous enough with just a beak and claws.

Wow! That Katana is amazingly beautiful!!! Can't believe the ammount of detailed artwork that went into it, and the story behind it. Lucky you to have such a work of art in your hands.

Any chance of Yangdu ordering another one made?
