Here are a few pics of my recent vacation. We went to the Beach in South Carolina and while there we went down to Charleston to tour the USS Yorktown and Fort Moultrie.

The Yorktown was a great tour and I could have spent more than a day in it reading and investigating everything, however, we were only there for a few hours. It is very impressive, very large and very easy to get lost in ;)

Fort Moultrie was also very interesting, I'm a huge history fan so I really enjoyed all the history of this Fort. It lies just across the bay from Fort Sumter (and it is cheaper to tour ;) ).

I've attached a few pics of each. Sorry there is no knife content in these.

In addition to the USS Yorktown there was also a Sub to tour, a Destroyer and a Coast Guard ship.

Here are a few pics of them

Here is a great pic of my youngest daughter sitting at one of the Anti-aircraft guns, the wind caught her hair just as I snapped the pic

Eric,

Great pictures ..... especially the one of your youngest daughter!!

The aircraft carriers are really cool to tour ..... you get a true sense of how massive these are ..... the subs and destroyers are interesting as well.

As a history fan, maybe next time you're down that way you should visit Savannah ..... great town and the Fort there is another great one to tour.

Thanks for the update and welcome home!!

Cool pics! South Carolina is nice! I couldn't imagine serving on one of the fart-can submarines.:barf:

Looks like you had a good day for site seeing. Touring the Yorktown is overwhelming if you try to see it all. Glad you got to enjoy a bit of SC. I was just below Charleston, on the banks of the Bohicket River this weekend. We were eating ribs and drinking cold beer while we hoped the breeze held up and kept the skeeters away.

Maquahuitl,
As a South Carolinian I appreciate your kind words about our state. :)
As an ex-submariner I take umbridge with you referring to a submarine as a fart-can.
The correct term is a sewer pipe, at least that is what we called them. :D

Eric,

At least you had the sense to bring a camera!

We got a "special" tour of the Abraham Lincoln (work related) and I blew the chance to get pics of my boys in the Captain's Chair, Nav Chair and at the Conn.:grumpy:

What's more, I missed the tour of the boomer since we were out of town for holidays:eek:

I think in light of these facts, I can over look the lack of knife content;)

Eric,

Thanks for posting those awesome pics!

I am NOT a big history fan, but I would love to take the Yorktown and sub tours that you and your family took. Very cool indeed!
