Was snow shoeing at the Minna Anthony Nature Center on Wellsley Island NY today. Beautiful, well for mid winter in Northern NY, day for a hike and a cool find...the barbed wire must have been strung quite some time ago, well before it became a nature center and my knives were begging for a photo with the tree and wire.
Enjoy,

That's cool. So the barbed wire goes through the tree, i.e. the tree grew around the wires?

I'd think the wire was attached the usual way when the tree was much smaller, younger and as the tree grew it surrounded the wire and just kept a growin'.
I've seen this with other objects as well. A house I bought had a ball hoop attached, to a tree on the side of the driveway, some years ago by two metal bands. The tree had started growing over the bands. The hoop had been broken and was useless so I cut away the bands...the tree is doing great last time I was in that city and went to look at the house.

Trees are amazing.

I'm jealous! I'd love to get out and do some hiking but unfortunately lately it's been way to cold for my hiking partners (my two bulldogs :) ). I can't wait for a little warm weather to spend outside with my pups

I'm sorry that I didn't comment earlier on your knife selection for the day. That BRK is a beaut and the 0770 looks like a great user for you. Very nice choices!

True both are quite nice. I particularly like the lanyard

I change the landyard fairly often especially when bored. The leather is from a rawhide shoe lace that is shaved thinner. I was with my wife at a craft store and aimlessly wandering the aisles when I came across a display of varied materials including different sizes of copper wire. I bought two different gauges...one thinner...and have used them in a few different ways including sewing a knife sheath...came out pretty cool but the sheath is a work sheath, cheap leather and rather beaten up. Just have to figure out a good way to tie it off, so far I've just twisted the two ends together and pushed the end between the leather...works so far.

Meanwhile I'm kinda missing snow (love the snowy pictures people post here) and practically have to drag my dog outside for his walks. Go figure. :)

And the Bark River is purty.

Sixth consecutive day using my snow thrower to clear 10 plus inches, not including wind blown drifts, of beautiful, awesome, miserable, stinking, etc. snow per day.

Single digits with a strong wind out of the E NE...my hands were so cold I lost feeling in them and I have very good gloves for this sort of stuff...but did get karma points helping my brother in law clear the driveway and sidewalks of my elderly next door neighbor...
Today is a day for the couch, good book and TV...
