Hey Guys,

Only have time to post pics on the weekends, so thought I wouldn't waste a Sunday afternoon! :D

Here are a couple of pics of Bura's original kinda cool Movie Model, and one Sher did a few years later. Really popping neem on the Sher, who also did a good job with a curvy Karda that matches the blade fairly well.

Top is a 21" 28 oz. original Movie Model by Bura

Bottom is a slightly heavier 20" 31 oz. by Sher

Both are nice handling but because of the thicker handle and slightly heftier blade the Sher feels a little better to me. Sher also added a nice fuller to his, otherwise it would be even heavier.

The buttcap may look thicker on the Bura, only because I ground it down flush to the handle after the horn shrank a bit a few years ago.

You never saw a lot of these, and as far as I know Sher only made two of his (maybe 3?), but they showed a lot of fun and creativity on the part of the kami's, especially Bura who did the first.

As I recall from what Uncle Bill posted, Bura saw a somewhat "wild & crazy" designed kukri in a movie, and decided to copy it for HI, hence the name! :)

Regards,

Norm

Thanks for taking the time to share these with us. The more pictures, especially of rarities like these, the better. I had noticed the fuller in the first picture and then the third picture shows the difference in blade width on Sher's. It's great to see the interpretation by different kamis on the same models.

Very beautiful I think I am going to have to give a horn handle a try. Do you find the horn slippery when using or is it just as secure.

Those slicers are for real!
Great pics Norm!

For some reason i really dig the fuller on Sher's.

Long life the Tiger!

Looks like the KLO from The Mummy Returns.

actually, i think it was the first mummy movie:)

Norm, I can't tell you how nice it is to have you back posting again, buddy:) You have some of the nicest pieces

Thanks!

Thanks Jake, it's good to be back! Honestly, I've been so work/school centric that I couldn't think of anything else, and having my work access blocked to this "weapons" site since 2008 totally hosed me. When I came home at night I could only worry about my school work.

For some reason BF "unblocked" at the beginning of the year, and I'm really hoping it stays that way! If I suddenly disappear during the day you'll know what happened, but I'll at least try and keep my hand in more nights and weekends. Wish I had done a better job of staying in touch, but can't change the past...

Thanks again for the kind words.

Hi Jamaljahda,

No, it's not bad at all, I don't find it slippery. In the first case remember you have a pommel swell that locks your hand in the harder you swing, and in the second Bura gives a very generous length handle on this guy.

Even on horn handles that are much shorter, say on the earlier M-43's, the pommel swell and ergonomics always help keep it in the hand. That's not to say that any handle can't be improved upon for each individual user though.

Those are great pictures, Norm, as are the others that you have been posting.
It is really nice for a new guy like myself to get to see some of these classic treasures for comparison. Thanks for taking the time to put them up.

Nice pics that illustrate what I perceive as a problem with current HI khuks, the handles are becoming bigger and bigger. I've got XL glove sized hands that I consider to be just above average sized and the current handles all feel too thick/big around to me on the last 4 or 5 I've bought. No big deal, I'm not planning on using them to fight with anyway, just an observation.

The beauty of the big handles is guys like me that need a big handle have one, and guys with smaller hands have something to work with to make it perfect for them. You can't make a small handle larger.

Great pix and collection, thank you for sharing
