Ok, we got our son an x-box for xmas. We got several games for it, some pretty good, some not so good.

What we need now are some new games. The problem is not knowing which ones to get.

We need a good car game. Sega GT has been suggested, as well as Project Gotham and Need For Speed. Any comments on these, or other driving games?

Also, from what little we know of "The Sims" it looks like an interesting game. It seems to be controlling a person (family?) in daily life. What is the point, and what all are you supposed to do?

A football game is a must. How is the ea sports madden series?

Vice City. That looks like it could be fun in its own twisted way. One person at a store I spoke with said he had it, and although its kind of neat, the novelty wears off pretty quick and the game sits and collects dust. Whats the word on this game?

Thanks.

That would depend on how old your son is. The Vice City game is pretty graphic and is awful violent. You can't go wrong with any Madden football game you get. Each one being better then the next. Try getting him Halo, one of the best games I have ever played. Halo 2 comes out this April. Your best bet is to go to www.xbox.com and see all the rating and descriptions of the games they have out and the new releases. Also, if you are not sure of a game you can always rent it first.

Try BEFORE you buy! Those things run around $50 each. I try to rent a game I'm interested in to see if I really like. With kids, you also want to see what the content is like. A $6 blockbuster rental can save you ALOT of money in the long run. If you can trade in the old games you don't like at Electronics Boutique or the other places that take trades. Most used games from a store (like EB) haven't been abused (too much) and are worth the savings. Then there is eBay....

Well, I'm more a PC gamer, but...

Need For Speed and Project Gotham Racing are both great games (I've only played Need For Speed, but I hear Project Gotham is quite similar).

Personally, I HATE the Sims. They can burn in hell. But if you like virtual dolls-house games, that's up to you. There are loads of different Sims games out there, but I can't recommend any.

The only good football games I know of are the FIFA series and the one by Konami (can't remember the name). Of course, you probably mean American footie, so I can't help there.

Vice City is a good game. It doesn't have to be super violent, but you can play it that way. It is definately and adult game though. I would agree that the game doesn't last particularly long, especially if all you do is go around killing old ladies.

I would definately get Halo, as suggested. Fantastic game. Also, Need For Speed Underground.

LOL @ Gabe! :D

I'm a Sony and PC man, but my brother has an Xbox.

Racing games tend to be very hit or miss...they are either good or they suck. I'd read reviews or rent games before buying as others have said. There's a great site here that compiles reviews for different games, and has a good advanced search capability. :)

Also - buying used games is the way to go as far as I'm concerned. Hell, I even bought my Playstation 2 used. ;) Try to find a local Gamestop or similar store. At my local store the employees are helpful, and they have a 7 day return policy on any used game. If you don't like it for any reason - even if its just because you think the game sucks - you can get your money back, no questions asked. On top of that they have a 90 day exchange policy if the game is scratched or otherwise malfunctioning.

I'm more of a "sim" type PC-gamer; I tend to like things as realistic as possible.

Still, a good, fun racing game is Porsche Unleashed- looks good, too.
(I think it's available for X-Box...)

I would (being a simmer and all) suggest some sort of wheel/pedals combo for racing, makes it loads more fun. I'm using the Logitech MOMO racing wheel at the moment; very nice Force Feedback number for a reasonable price.

Go to your local Sams Wholesale and look around they're always having older games on sale for 12-15bux some of them are good games that are just past their prime. Also with Xbox you have a number of platnium hits that are 19.99 stuff like Splinter Cell if you like shooting games or Elderscrolls for an rpg, YOU MUST HAVE HALO !!!! they've recently dropped the price down to 29.99 it's the reason most people have an Xbox it's a really cool game. You might wanna check www.ign.com a couple of times a week they review whats coming out and rate it accordingly. If you do some shopping around you can find tons of good games for cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now we will be able to have a better idea of what to look for without wasting money on crap. After we bought "Big Mutha Truckers" we realized there really are awful games out there.

I'd recommend finding a "used" game store. That $50.00 game today will probably be $20.00 in 6 months. Just an idea.

Nobody has commented on the Sega GT game so I will. I liked it alot. I borrowed it from a friend and took forever to give it back. Its not quite Grant Turismo level but its close. I'd definitely recommend it.

Huh, I was there less than a week ago, and they specifically mentioned the 7-day return policy

Get it. If you like shooters, you'll love this one. You'll play it more than your kid tho.

I'm a fan of Counter-Strike, of course.

I sure hope so!!! :D

The main reason being that it's the finest game out there!!! The other reason being.........................

You know what...
In Malaysia nobody buys original games...no wonder Microsoft is so pissed off...
It costs like $2-3 for a game at the current conversion rate...you'd be amazed to see how many games a typical malaysian gamer has...
They're all exact copies so no doubt about the quality...but for $2-3 bucks who cares...

For me...i'm not a console man myself so it doesn't bother me...
