A few questions on different things

OK, here we go, got a bunch of questions for you guys.

First, I have a 1x30 belt grinder from harbor freight. I would like to get using that to grind my blades as opposed to a file, I'm running out of juice for hand filing. Any good info or tips on grinding, specifically how to keep your plunge line nice? I'm already caught up in filing one but the next one I would certainly prefer to grind.

Second, I'd like to know more about using tubes for pins on your handles. The only knife company that does what I'm thinking of that comes to mind right now is busse. It looks cool as hell, I'd like to try it, but I don't know much about it. I'd also like to know where I could get ok looking chicago screws or something for handles.

Third, this is more of a bonus question, I've got this tiny little grinder and pretty soon I'll want to upgrade. Who are some good manufacturers to look at in the 300-500 dollar range.

I was going to inquire about all this in chat last night, but deadliest warrior was on and then I had to sleep.

I can't help you with the grinder, but on the tubes, treat them as solid pins. Lightly rough up the out side by rolling them on sandpaper (for soft metals like copper, brass, aluminum) and glue them in. Many people use a counter sink bit to chamfer the edges when done with shaping. A ball burr works well also.

Salem Straub has some great information, here are his grinding tips.

Use a light touch when you put the knife to the grinder but be deliberate. Try to feel the grind line. Keep your elbows tucked in and sway with the knife as opposed to moving it with your hands. Use fresh ceramic belts if you can get them to do your initial grind.
