1. Does a citrus patina wear off a knife blade from batoning it through wood ? I mean they look good but isn't it redundant for heavy use ? Is there an induced patina that's tougher than the rest ? A little more resistant to rough use.

2. I lost a thread a ways back discussing bone knife grips. I have some Elk that I may use. Do you have to stabilize bone with any type of hardener or sealant for knife use ? Or is seasoned bone fine as is ?

3. Why do flies fall dead off the wall when I take my boots off ? I have my monthly shower whether I need it or not !

Number 2 and 3 I can't help you on but I can on number 1. Yes it will come off with batoning but only where the wood contacts the knife. You'll get similar wear patterns as you see on the standard coating. For me a patina does two things. Protects the blade from rust without having to have a coating that likes to create friction when traveling through media and the second is to look good.

Also can only answer number one, and yes it wears with use. That is one of the main reasons I use gun blue. Since it leaves a smooth even finish, once it wears you can reblue with ease without worrying about a pattern you spent a few trys to get right

Fair enough, thanks.

Now this is VERY interesting. I did some hawks a while back and wondered about knives, then forgot about it. I think that this is were I'll go with it. Thanks for the reminder.
