yes, it's a beautiful day here in the mountains; full sun sky blue, in the 90's, light breeze, planting carrots in the garden, small dog off hunting wild turkey chicks; and i won a fine near mint Schrade 7OT ( not Schrade +) for a mere $11.50. i think this makes it pre 1997. i'm a beginner but i think a mint (or near) older 7OT is one of the cornerstones of a Schrade collection. here is a link if you want to look,( but you already know what it looks like). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=250121419802&rd=1&rd=1
i also wanted it to compare with my 2 LB7's; a 3 pin, bolster #Q59633 and a 4 pin with bolster #'s on it's way. all this for about $51, that's very good value, especially considering how much enjoyment one gets from researching, bidding, receiving, cleaning, sharpening, using (or not, for last 2). thanks to help given by forum members here, i think i have purchased a number of interesting Schrades (there's more than these 3).
question; can i use Flitz on bolsters ? serial # etch is not that deep. thanks, roland

Roland I use Maas on mine. It's very close to Flitz and don't see it affecting the etch, but do be careful. Also try to keep it off the handles as it stains them.Arnold

I finally made it to a flea market this afternoon. I walked and walked and walked. I burnt my eyes out looking through cases and tables of Frosts, Pakastani, and United junk. But I did finally come away with three decent knives.

First was an SP3 Ferguson Racing, one of the NASCAR Lightweights I was missing. It is mint, but no package. Next up was a Schrade+ LTD USA bone handled trapper. Very nice with a blade etch "Schrade Super Sharp". And finally, a Sta-Sharp High Carbon Steel U.S.A., an old Sears/Camillus SFO knife with nice cell handle. $40 total, more than I wanted to spend, but not bad.

Michael, I think the Trapper is the TRT96 Tennesse River Trapper as sold through Wal Mart a few years back.

Roland, congratulations on another nice knife, and on what sounds like a great lifestyle you are living "way up north," too.

Codger, congratulations on your haul, too. They're all good knives I'll bet.

I believe you are correct Rusty. And, what a coincidink, the flea market is on the banks of the Tennessee River just across from U.S. Grant's old headquarters at Savannah Tennessee. At $24 without the box, was it a deal? To me, the steal of the day was the old Camillus Sears Sta-Sharp knife. Pre-WWII and in great shape for cell. I'm still not so sure it was worth the walking and haggling though. Maybe I had my expectations too high after seeing Muskratman's hauls and the gleanings of others here.

I haven't gone searching for the "other" 7OT stamp yet. I may some day soon though.

Michael

Those TRT's are nice and chunky compared to a standard OT trapper, sounds like it came home to roost.

Yup, I already had one NIB thanks to another forum member some time back. So how much, in you felloww's estimation, does the absence of the box affect this one? Now, boxless (for how long?) and being shuffled here and there since new, it does have some "foggy" buffing on the bolsters. Not scratching, but like a light haze that doesn't wipe off. I haven't tried oil, and won't buff it. But out of curiosity, how much do you devalue a LE SFO like this?

Michael

If someone hasn't got one it would seem they would pay anything to get a particular model. the most I have seen recently new in box for the TRT went for over $65.00. I think most tend to devalue the knife without box about 35%. taking a look at e-bay lately anything is possible.

Michael, i don't mind that there is no box for that nice looking Schrade + LTD trapper. here's one guy who'll buy it from you right now, so i figure it's worth some good money without the box. roland
